I want to fit a 315/60-15 Mickey Thompson ET Street on my 67 Coronet wagon and I've seen others do this with a 3in mini-tub and relocated leaf springs on a stock width rear axle. My question is how to you fit the tire underneath to install it on the axle? I've been picking the car up by the middle of rear bumper to let the suspension sag and the top of my current 235/70-15 doesn't clear the bottom of the quarter panel and barely squeezes at an angle between the quarter panel and the drum brake. So if a 235 can barely fit between the quarter panel and drum, how do you fit a 315 in there? Do you disconnect the shock or leaf spring to get extra clearance? Does only jacking up one side at a time help force the axle to rotate enough for that extra room? I don't mind doing the mini-tub but am trying to avoid buying a narrowed rear right now.

Thanks,
Jack

You don't have to buy a whole rear end all you have to do is chop yours to the width that you need and buy chop axles they're made to be cut down to the size you need chop Axles aren't that expensive. Yukons are decently priced Summit carries them $150 apiece that's what I'm running no problems
With the 315 maybe they do disconnect the shocks and shackles to get the extra room

What's the typical going rate to have a rear narrowed? I lack the necessary fab/welding skills to do it myself.

its not that it is that expensive, its finding a place that will do it.most normal diff shops wont do it.you will need to call around your area to find one that will.

How I did mine I used at chop saw with a metal cutting blade and I cut out the sections that I needed to and had a buddy of mine weld it back together cost me a six pack.
Wherever the spring perches need to be cut the axle so your first cut is going to be located in the center of your spring perch then cut the rest off of the outside pieces so when it's welded back together your weld is centered under the spring perch and your spring perch is welded over the cut on both sides strongest way to do it
