1969 Dodge Coronet

Well I posted about a week ago on a 1969 Coronet 440 I was looking at. I ended up making a trade and am pretty happy with the car. I have always been a fan of Chrysler products and this will be my first Dodge project car.

Looks like a real nice car. I love looking at the old dealer stickers and emblems. Mine still had it's original on it as well. Mine is getting hard to read though.

Well the weather here has been really crappy for the last few weeks. I have not been able to do much to the car yet. I ended up getting a new carburetor installed and also wheel and tires. After going back and forth many times on the wheels I decided to go for Bassett for now. If I do a full restoration Ill probably swap them for cragar ss wheels.

Now to find a decent repop A12 Hood!

Here is a pic of the new Carb. Nice and shinny and fired right up out of the box, seems pretty solid. I was deciding between this and a Holley but ended up finding this carb new for $250 and seemed like a decent deal.

Today I changed out the spark plugs. This is the first time I have ever done this and wow they are a PITA to get too. I'm not a very big person and had the hardest time getting my hands through headers, steering boxes, and lines...

Next step is to replace brake lines and master cylinder. I built my first line today but ran out of energy, will continue on tomorrow.

Was hoping to ask if anyone has a recommended distributor cap/rotor? I thought MSD would be a good one but I have not been able to find a Chrysler cap yet.

Nice looking car and welcome to FBBO. The Firecore distributers that Mancini sells are a decent piece if you want more of a stock look.

I am going to need to replace my Master Cylinder it is in rough shape inside. Is there a way to determine the correct Master Cylinder? I could not find any marking on it. I am also not certain if this is the correct booster. The car has Disc on front and Drum on Rear.

well I got the Wheels, Tires, Fan Shroud, and Lugs ordered. Ill post some pics as soon as they come in.

I swapped the carb over to a 625 Demon but waiting on the Chrysler kick-down to come in. Neat looking carb fired right up was really surprised. Looking forward to getting it on the road.

I have a question I am hoping to get some help with. I want to remove the rear window trim to check for any damage because I know they are prone to rust here. I started by taking the bottom off but noticed there were no clips at all on the bottom curved piece. Is this normal? I was expecting some type of clips but it was just glued with very thick rubber/gasket. I was only able to get one side off the other side is being a pain to get off. Is there any ticks to loosening the rubber up so it can come off without taking a risk of bending the piece? also I am guessing there will be clips on the top and sides?

Thanks!

There should be trim clips on all 4 pieces of the trim. Sounds like someone got lazy somewhere along the line.

Beautiful car. I'm currently restoring a 69 Coronet so if you have any questions give a shout and I'll try to help. This is a great site, so many knowledgeable members that are willing to share their experiences. The rear windows on these cars don't have a gasket; they're held in with a butyl compound known in the trade as dum-dum.

Wayne theramman on youtube has a lot of videos on brakes.

Doctordiff and Piratejacks have the parts at a decent price.

Yes ! There are 21 clips securing the rear glass trim to the body. The bottom piece is the worse one to get because off all the dirt and grime that has settled there over the years. Just be patient, you are probably snagged on a clip and cannot see it. The corner ones were the hardest for me to get, patience is a must !! Have you water tested the back glass yet ? Sounds like with all that glue you mentioned somebody was attempting to reseal at some point...

Had a decently productive couple of days. Was able to replace the master brake cylinder, distributor cap, plug wires, thermostat, water pump, radiator, fan shroud, and hoses.

The radiator and fan shroud took alot more fabrication than I was hoping to do. I had to build another mounting bracket out of aluminum to get it to fit properly.

After looking at this pic i really need to wash the engine bay out.

My friend suggested to use a brake syringe for prepping the master cylinder. First time using this made installing and bleeding the front brakes really easy.

Next step will be the back brakes. I have already picked up the shoes, rebuild spring kit, and cylinders. Drums are on order should be here tomorrow. I had some issues with picking out the proper rear brake hose but think i got it answered from another post.

I will also be adding a Proportioning Valve and new brake lines to the rear.
