What if my trans doesn't seem to have a place for the lower bracket for the console shifter to bolt to?

You would need to find a tailshaft with the two bolt holes and swap out your tailshaft...

benrunner, sounds like you're talking about the lower mount for the vertical shaft going through the floor pan. The tailshaft housing has a cast tab with 2 holes in front of the X member mount, a bracket with a plastic bushing is the mount for the shaft. It bolts through the 2 cast holes in the tailshaft.
