What do I do about a tail shaft gasket for the housing on a 727 local parts store can't order it

Try a tranny shop that sells Transtar parts.

....or you can make one yourself. Parts stores carry flat bulk sheets of different types of gasket material that you can use.

Too much work for something that is available.

Transtar Industries 1-855-872-6782

Tailshaft Extension Housing Gasket PN#22305AB, Chrysler number 2466954

Both 904 and 727 use the same gasket.

Sometimes......a person might not have the time needed to get one ordered in.

Making a gasket should only take about ten minutes....put a light coat of oil on the housing, press the gasket material against it to get the shape and outline, then cut it out with a single-edge razor blade.

I grew up on a farm in Iowa. It was 17 miles to the nearest parts store. Made more than one gasket in my time.....

I will concede to that extent. Personally, if I had time, and it was available, I would get it new.

Are you repairing a leak? Make sure it isn't the rear band anchor pin leaking. Push the pin forward and fill the cavity on the outside with RTV. This can be done in the car w/o removing any parts using a putty knife . Very common leak point.
