Big wheels on Bbodies

Not very many cars come with wheels smaller than 16" now. I was driving a 2014 Fiesta and that had 16's. Lol. I say put 20's on everything. Even a mini van image.jpgimage.jpg

I hate them...

Kind of like putting a "Nice" and "Huge" RACK on a 80 year old Grandma....

But, to each his own...

"Peace-out"

I don't know Ski. It all depends on how tight Grandma's *** is to go with that new rack. If she has the full package I say go for it.

It makes me wonder, since the word 'iterate' means to say again, or repeat....why do we have the word 'reiterate'.

What are you responing to Photon? LMAO! Did you get your threads mixed up?

I guess it means to re-reiterate.
Ask the English. They invented the mess.

When there are two stong opinions on a subject like this, things get messy.
The 15" crowd are most likely the older of the two. Taking it a step further, the older a person is, the LESS likely they like any sort of change, progress or deviation from stock. They can't see why anyone would spend the money on big diameter wheels. They owned these cars as kids and have fond memories of how they performed in the 60s and 70s.
The Big wheel crowd are most often younger. They are more open to current trends and like to stand apart from the crowd. They often like to make changes to the suspension and brakes to improve the handling of the cars. They grew up driving Hondas or a minivan, so when they get a classic car they want it to do more than haul *** in a straight line.
Me? At 49 I am in the middle. Todays new cars do everything well, so why not integrate some of that line of thinking to our classics? You will never get razor sharp steering response from a 235-60-15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A. You will never generate .90G with .88 T bars and a .90 front sway bar. The 15" tire crowd probably aren't at all interested in cornering and quick braking anyway. Thats fine. I will not insult your wheels size as long as you do the same regarding mine.

Looking at these pictures, who prefers the black steelies over the 18" wheels?

I am 58 and I love the muscle cars to look like they did in the 60's and 70's. To me that Charger looks retarded with the big 18" wheels as I would go with the black steelies since I feel they look 100% better and just look right on it. I mean no offense to anyone who likes the big wheels as thats your priority but I hate to see people making so many changes on what I consider great looking cars from the 60's and 70's and think they need big modern wheels because thats the new technology in wheels. So what there is no reason to change what looks great to me and the muscle cars looked great on 15" wheels to me. They dont need ugly modern big 18" wheels IMO. I cant imagine how retarded my 63 and my brothers 64 would look in this pic racing with 18 to 20" wheels on them. Sorry guys and gals but it makes me puke even thinking about it. The big wheels may look ok on modern cars but they look way out of place on old muscle to me. Guess thats why I have never liked any car Chip Foose has done because he ruins them with the modern wheels in my opinion. Guess by now you all know I am not a fan of big wheels on old muscle. LoL but thats just me as anyone has the right to do what they like to their own car. Its just dont mean I have to like it. Ron

Also when I look at that blue Coronet that "kevin403" posted it also sits to low which makes it look worse to me on the big wheels. Thats another reason I hate any car Chip Foose does as they look ugly sitting down real low and on big wheels to boot. Yuk !! LoL ! Ron

Sorry as I really dont mean to be offensive to anyone as we all have the right to do what we like with our cars but its like I have been waiting 5 years to finally vent some about the big wheels which of course I feel dont look right on our muscle cars but as said thats just my opinion and we are all entitled our opinion. LOL If it makes you feel ant better I think your car would look ridiculous doing that with 18's too.

I guess i'll weigh in on this too...to answer the original question,...beats me. Now the other part of this thread,.. I'm 57 and I also grew up with these cars. MOHO is that 1. We should all do what the he** we want to our cars, period. 2. We should all respect others choices for their car. 3. We should all cheer each other on with what is happening in our builds and choices.4. IF an opinion is solicited then yes we should all be able to say what WE think is nice looking etc. I like them all, except the hoopdies that the city kids build with 3 foot rims on them. That just looks wrong. On the other hand, if a person is building a car to factory specs he/she should stick to factory stuff. I wonder if MA Mopar would have placed wider tires and bigger rims on some of these cars if they were available back then? I bet she would have. I mean, R/T....road and track?

Both look awesome and suit the desired look going for each car! One more Nostalgic pavement beater and the other more of a Resto-Mod or Pro-Touring Look... It's about the package and picking the look you like for your ride

Here's mine with the 15" Magnum 500's it came with. I thought it looked awesome but was leaning a different direction for my taste.

If done right, can look great...if not, then it looks like a DUB City toy from a gas station

That is well said and I agree with it. Myself I do apoligize as I dont mean to offend anyone as everyone has the right to do what they like with their car. I guess I have just got tired of guys telling me........................hey you have to change with the times. Well I believe if you have something you like then NO it does not have to change with the times and I mean the attitude of my muscle cars. I grew up with them looking like they do with 15" wheels and more then an inch of rubber for a sidewall and I love the attitude of the old school look. Chip Foose dont help either as to me when you put 18" or bigger wheels on a muscle cars and then drop it down almost to the ground it just makes it look even worse to me. So thats one place I wont change with the times but if many do that is their privledge and they only have to please themselfs with their car.
So again I appoligize as I dont want to offend anyone as I should do like my mom always told me which was.......................if you dont have anything good to say keep your mouth shut !! Carry on my friends and enjoy your cars. Ron

I hear you 383 but the same could be said for tubbing and narrowing a classic B-Body. That's major surgery and does more damage to the car than bolt on changes. Rim size is easily changed.

All you did to that car was F@ck it up to the point that it would be very difficult to put it back to "concourse" if someone chose to do so long after you're in a hole in the ground. Looks cool but I would only do that to a throw away, rusted out, Piece Of $hit. Maybe it was? I don't know.

If it was solid before you did that, shame on you. Yet another B-Body destroyed.

The good news is that if you have a blow out at 130MPH and barrel roll it through the traps....no loss to the car.

why not have both and im 30.
I prefer handling over driving a boat, that was main reason for better suspension and wheels. not a lot of straight roads here.

agree with you 100% ron, and it is upto the owner of the car if that's the way you like. some people do it for looks, some for performance upgrades if they like driving there car fast around corners. if you don't mind the way your car handles then leave it the way it is, it is everyones own choice, cars would be boring if everyone was stock, factory or looking like the other

hey everyone, I hope I didn't come off as chastising anyone. I did not mean to. I was just stating my views. Everyone has a right to their view on the subject.

Ouch! Maybe all they did was make it better than the factory did...not hard to do. I feel for the purest passing judgement like they were a designer and someone ruined their "Picasso". The only ones that are "destroyed" are the ones left to rot, that someone wont sell or is going to do it some day. If your enjoying your car before your "in a hole in the ground" your doing well! It's the love of the car....how it's built is on you!

You kinda lost me here Runner 68 as I dont know if you are talking about my 63 ?? If you are your wrong as it is not tubbed or cut on at all and nothing is narrowed. 30 x 9 slicks fit fine in the stock wheelwell as all I have added is a 6 point rollbar. Its not a real max Wedge car either but it is just the way I like it. I would tub a concourse car and put 32 x 14 x 15 wheels on it and race it before I would ever put the 18" or bigger wheels on it since I believe these muscle cars were made to be raced sometimes. And I like bigger tires with 3 inches of sidewall rubber on 15" rims like they were raced in the 60's and 70's. Actually the only thing on my 63 that is added that would keep it from being put back to all stock is the 6 point rollbar and the frame connectors but it could very easily have the roll bar cut off at the floor and then the carpet would cover anything showing it ever had a rollbar and the frame connectors could be cut out. But that will never happen as long as I have it because I like to race my muscle car sometimes and I prefer the attitude and looks of it like in the 60's and 70's which is the look I love on them. I have to have the rollbar to race and be legal and safe since anycar faster then 11.50 has to have the 6 point bar as the least and its legal to 10.00 with a stock firewall. I also dont consider making any Mopar a race car to be destroying the car as I love the drag race car look as long as it has the looks I like and if it dont thats fine it just means I may not like the look as that was my point about the big modern wheels as I just dont feel they look right on old muscle. And I agree that if I had a real rare Mopar like a real maxie or Hemi car then yes I would leave it all original and I would like it even more if it was an original 62 to 65 Max Wedge or Hemi race car or a 68 Hemi A-body race car. I would leave them original even though they were built to be raced.

And last I dont consider what I have done to my 63 as it to be F@cked up I consider it to be just perfect the way a muscle car should be since I feel they were built to be raced and not have f@cking ugly 20" wheels with tires that have 1" sidewalls to be put on them that were not even around when they were built ! Ron

As long as nobody does this to a Classic MOPAR,

e.jpg

its all good. LOL that's just silly.

I guess by runner 68's standards I not only F'd up my car but I flat out destroyed it to the point of no return haha. Shaker scoop on a Charger, chopped out floor for a T56 6 speed, narrowed bumpers, minor tub work, chopped up and modified dash, homemade console, smooth out engine compartment, hidden harness, weld in sub frame connectors, modern seats, etc. All I can say is I blow by the other car show goers in the turns, cruise at 1,800rpm doing 70 mph and still have good acceleration, am more comfy, have no hood clearance issues, don't have pillows bolted all over my dash, have cup holders and just flat out love the chit out of driving it. On a good note though, my car started life as a base line 318 car with no real significant collector value other than it being a 69 Charger. I for one like them all be it pro street, pro touring or stock as long as it doesn't have the factory donuts.
