Well, I've been taking things apart for a long time now, and have made numerous structural repairs. The time finally came to bring the Charger to the shop however, so we trucked it over there a short while back. There is still a good deal of work to be done, but I really needed to get the shell blasted to really see everything. The shop blasted my Charger about a week ago, but I haven't been able to get over there and check it out due to some medical issues. Medical issues are finally over, so I went to the shop yesterday to see the Charger. Good news is there were no NEW surprises... In fact, there were a few areas that I was really worried about, but they turned out great, they just looked bad when they were covered in crap.
I was there for a few hours yesterday morning, discussing the Charger's future. I also brought my Rust Bullet Paint up to the shop so they can get started with that. The rest of the body will receive a basic primer for now, just something to keep it from rusting while we're working on it.
It was basically a big bull session yesterday, talking with the guys and stuff. I ran a few errands with Wayne, the owner of the shop, before heading off to work.

I truly have been blessed here! Unlike most body shops, these guys are so eager to get started, that oddly enough, I'm the guy who's usually holding things up!

Yesterday, Wayne's nephew Brian asked my permission to start posting pic's of the Chargers restoration on their Facebook page, so for those of you folks who have FACEBOOK, please feel free to visit their Facebook page from time to time and post your comments. I'm sure they'd appreciate it.

Looks great, can't wait to see some color. Speaking of color, have you decided on one yet?

We're still a long way from color yet Reed. I still have to fix the F'd up quarters, and a few other minor patches. Then we start tugging on the chassis to get it straight again. Then we'll start stiffening the chassis and stuff. Then we'll be close to color... Still thinking about the paint.

Looks good!

lookin' good!

Thanks guys!
It's been a long road with all the disassembly and repair work up to now, but I've finally reached that turning point in the process, where things will start moving in the other direction now, and start coming together.

Thanks!
Yeah, that's what it looked like before I started taking it apart... which made a lot of people wonder why I would take it apart in the first place.
It definitely "looked" pretty good, but there were "a lot" of hidden issues, and some of them were major issues as Gpuller (Reed) will attest.
I knew the car had issues the day I bought it, but they were nothing major, so I drove it around for several years while I squirreled away money to fix it up right. I didn't realize the full extent of those issues until I started taking it apart however.

Yeah I'm afraid that a lot of cars are hiding some sins of their past life. You'll get 'er whipped in to tip top shape again.
I like mine, not much hiding behind the original paint and rust. LOL

Work has been progressing on the Charger, most of the easy stuff is done already. I took a ride over to the shop this morning to say hello and drop off the new trunk extension I picked up for the Charger. We've been holding off on some of the major repair items. We've been trying to locate some decent metal to repair the Charger... clean used quarters, fenders, that sort of stuff. I'm still waiting to hear back from a couple of folks about parts, and so is Wayne. We both have feelers out there, we even have patrol cops out there looking around for us, but Wayne's getting tired of waiting. The boys at the shop want to get this project moving forward. We'll wait a little longer, but if we don't come up with something soon, their just going to start hand forming the body parts from scratch. Of course, assuming Wayne or I actually find some parts, it still may be cheaper to make the parts than it is to buy them. Some folks simply want to much money.

Example... Tony's Parts has a quartes... for $1500!!!... and that's before shipping... Thanks, but I think I'll pass. I could tool up and start my own production run for that kind of money.

Desert Valley Auto Parts told my friend Mark they wanted $1200 for a used gauge cluster! The Ultra Rare Solid Gold HEMI version apparently.

I did hear from Desert Valley Auto Parts this morning... as expected, they want BIG MONEY for used parts. I may call them anyway just to see if I can't talk them down and work out a deal. I don't expect much, but a phone call never hurt anybody.

By the way... if this is Desert Valley, why is the car all wet and the ground saturated with water?
Old Rusty Parts for Sale, to replace your old rusty parts! Fender lying on the ground with the dog leg rusted off is not a good sign.
