'72 Plymouth Satellite project - Gone with the green!

Speedometer can be tested using a small nail that fits into the square hole where the cable goes(file to make square, and cut the head off), and then attach a variable speed power drill and slowly power it up, should see the needle move up as speed of drill goes up. If its reversible, you can test that, and nothing should happen in reverse.

Amp meter can be tested on the bench by placing it in series with a headlight and the battery, needle should move up or down depending on which side (+/-)you have it connected to the battery, you can double the headlights to get more draw if you want the needle to move higher.

Wow, what a great starting point! It's allot cheaper to start with a car that nice for sure and those things look mean as hell with the big open grills. Looks like your doing a great job on it, good luck.

Yep, "Idrivemopar" has a great diag for gauge testing. I tested the temp, gas, and oil but putting 5 volts to it and checking for movement, the amp meter gauge also works as tested from his post also! Great way to bench test! I might just take an old short speedo cable and attach it and run a drill to check speedo. The tach I got is rebuilt, and I don't know any easy way to test! I might go ahead and test dash lights and turn signals lights even tho they have all been replaced also, they are kinda of a pain to sort out but a wiring diagram is useful!

'72 Project

Went over budget on the steering column rebuild, but it turned out all right! Ran the factory tuff wheel adapter and Grant's Tuff steering wheel, can't wait to install it! Also got the cruise control stalk to fit!

'72 Project

Finally getting pieces together of the dash! Cleaned up the ductwork and laid out the wiring harness. Got the original dash pad installed and got cluster mounted! Have some alignment stuff to work out but am excited to drop it in! Woo hoo!!

In the meantime, trying to figure out what shifter, linkage I need for the 4speed setup! Will be running center console with bucket seats, found an 18 spline A833, will be interesting to see what clutch setup I can come up with...

Now I can tell why people get burnt out with a project after 4 weeks of sanding, spraying, sanding, spraying, sanding... I think this will be my last guide coat! I think once the paint is done, it's gonna be hard to look at this thing for awhile!

Am looking forward to painting my Power Wagon next, switched it over to propane a few years ago on the 440, my favorite pickup!

So much time spend parts running and searching, and researching stuff, take a lot to keep the ball rolling on each part of the project!

Saw a distraction today in a backyard in town, '72 RR, banged up grille but how often do you see something like that sitting around!??

And just for the record, ive been there with the sanding lol, another month of it you'll be ready to paint! LOL, I love your Power wagon, that is one sweet ride to have in the winter months, a Mopar fix when ya cant drive the lady!!!

And a perfect color on it... to me anyway!..,..

'72 Project

Ready for paint!! Now just have to wait a little longer for some warmer weather, should be nice with low dust and no insects out in early spring, painting in a barn could be interesting!

Was able to find those amber lights I think will look cool in the headlite buckets, blasting and epoxy painted.

Was going to buy new wiper and heater blower motor, but my budget is already over limit, so decided to clean up as best as I could! They turned out really well I think!

Will also have to swap out the front bumper since it was dented and bent, my new bumper is straight but some rust on back side, so cleaned up and POR15'd it, doesn't need a rechroming but a good polishing!

Will tackle the heater box and also get the 8 3/4" rear set up to swap in for the 7 1/4", should keep me busy for awhile till our warmer weather moves in soon!

Cant' wait to put them back in! More fun! -J

72 plymouth

Well finally pulled the trigger and got ankle surgery on two busted ligaments from 4 months ago and getting this blood clot figured out in the same leg! Seesh!

Was able to get everything handicapped accessible for a bit to keep progress on prepping and assembling parts to be ready when I get the Plymouth painted very soon! Got front bumper brackets and grille mounts powdercoated this week!

Should keep me busy for the 4 wks on crutches! Fun...

Thank you BB73! I also enjoy following your posts also, I have been using your ideas and enjoy working on the "more affordable" '71 up cars like you! (If there's such a thing!)

Am able to prop myself up and get the dash finalized and AC box. Installed some little 4" Hertz 80watt speakers to replace the single speaker in the dash, cut the old speaker out as a template and mounted the two side by side. Will have to paint and reinstall speaker bracket but should work!

AC box turned out great and will be excited to get installed when the paint is on! Some more work to clean/install vacuum lines and got ductwork installed..

Being laid up you get in the bad habit of spending $$ online getting the little misc. stuff that you know you are going to need! Detroit Muscle/440 Source/Stephens Performance and Year One have some good deals at the right time!

Well I tried that Oven Cleaner "Easy Off" on the front lower valence insert for the Satellite, which had 4 different color paint on it, one being the old lady handpainted her favorite teal color.. WOW! It works incredible and didn't even touch the plastic! Great idea FABO members! -Jim

Oh yeah, I liked that green color.
Better then my "omaha orange" although it is kinda growin on me..
