Just replaced the shoes on my 69 Charger. I noticed that on the driver side the smaler shoe is facing forward. On the passenger side the smaller shoe faces towards the rear. Is this correct?

The smaller, or primary, should face towards the front on both sides.

Brake shoes are like a mullet hair cut, short in the front, long in the rear.

Frod and other mid-sized (big) trucks used a Lockheed dual-pivot system that used small on back.
I'm just sayin'..

If you look at how the brakes work you will see that the front shoe applies force to the rear shoe
so the rear shoe will do more work so needs to be larger

Another way to look at it. The emergency brake cable is connected to the rear shoe. That's why it's bigger. It gives you more surface area if its really needed in an emergency.

Business up front. Party in the back !!!! The mullet reference was hilarious !!!!
