who can offer some options to get a little more power out of a 72 400 2bbl? on a tight budget, have thought about a simple 4bbl carb / intake upgrade and maybe a mild cam, but got scarred off a little, was told that kick down linkage is a night mare to change to 4bbl.

any suggestions? i dont need 500 hp.. but would like to know there a lil power there..

as you can tell, not the most mechanically inclined here.

thanks!!
Jerry

thanks,

i will check them out..

In my opinion, the first thing you have to do is make sure that the car has an ideal tune. This means that the carb is working right, the timing is set ideal, good plugs, wires, spark, etc.

If you know your car is working perfectly, then upgrades are appropriate. However, you said you are on a budget and not mechanically inclined. I suggest you first spend your money on a proper tune up with a well known, old time mechanic who knows what he is doing. A session to properly tune your car might make a big difference in how the car drives and feels. A properly tuned 2 barrel will run better and be more fun to drive than a poorly tuned 4 barrel.

Good Luck!

four barrel on a dual plane intake, good exhaust, good ignition (if you are running points, go electronic), and a good tune.

Since I had it laying around at the time, I found a great boost on my truck 318 simply by using an adapter plate to fit a Holley 500 cfm 2bbl. Really woke it up.

Then I found a sharp kink in the tailpipe so I sawed that off...felt like another 20 hp. after that. Check the simple things. :)

X2 on making sure the engine is in good shape to start with. Fee up the exhaust, mild cam designed for low compression, 4 BBL carb even if on a stock iron intake.

bump the timing

i'm pretty sure the timing is retarded a little bit.. wait can i use that word?? timing is a little slow.. no.. that doesnt work either... the timing is slightly challenged..

When it comes to humor, timing is everything!
