I have a 1970 roadrunner I am trying to put rear bumper guards on. In my research I am having a difficult time trying to figure out if I even have the right ones. Now I do not believe I have ones for a 69 model, because they have a bolt permanently attached to it that goes through the bumper, unlike the 70 model where the bolt screws into the guard. Correct me if I am wrong, I am learning new things every day. The problem I have is that they do not seem to fit the back bumper to well leaving a gap? I did find in my manual that their was a front bumper guard option as well (not the rubber inserts that go into the bumper) and these seem to fit nicely on the front bumper as shown in the diagram I have attached. Their is no mounting holes on the front and the manual says that in 1970 special bumpers were not needed because they all came with provisions for the guards front and rear. Another question came into play when I tried to find pics of rear bumper guards on a roadrunner. I did not find any and also most did not have the holes in the rear bumper where the guards are suppose to mount like mine does. As far as numbers go, I am only able to read a big number 2 on one guard and a 3 on the other. If any one has these mounted or has photos, please share any info and correct me if I am wrong. I have attached a diagram and photos. Thanks again and hope to hear from some of you soon. bumper guard redo.jpgRear bumper.jpgDSC00749.jpgDSC00751.jpg

Can only say I have seen a BUNCH of 70RRs...none had read bumper guards....

So first of all, sorry, I can't specifically help you with your question as I do not have additional bumper guards on my 70 Road Runner and I have never seen a 70 Road Runner that has them.

As you stated, all 70 Road Runners came with the integrated bumper guards on the front bumpers - I have heard many people call them the "eyebrows". So in that context, the FSM looks like it is wrong, since we all know the front bumper guards did not look as in that picture.

So to rear bumper guards: I agree that the bumper guards you show in your picture look like the FRONT bumper guards in the FSM. However, the rear bumper guards shown in the FSM look different, as if they have a more rounded cutout. (Of course, it is hard to see in the small FSM drawing.)

So, are you perhaps trying to fit front bumper guards onto a rear bumper?

Interestingly, my bumper does not have the holes you circle. Maybe your bumper came from a station wagon or other related 70 Plymouth?

Sorry I can't be of more help - good luck!

So I have been looking at things closely and I am about positive that the guards I have are for the front bumper. They fit perfect, but their are no holes where they should mount. I know I have seen RR and GTX's with the rear bumper guards and the manual shows them for the front, but has anyone actually seen front mounted bumper guards on a RR or GTX?

I feel like I've mostly ever seen them on Satellites. And I haven't seen very many with them (Less than 5) on 70's.
Haven't ever seen them installed on the front of a '70.

So my next question is, how many people on this site with a 1970 RR have those two bolt holes where the bumper guards go? I have them circled in green on my RR.

My GTX has them. I can snap some pics if you want me to.

Yeah, if you do not mind and did you put them on or did you buy it that way. If you put them on, did yours have the holes already in the bumper?

DP, I bought the car in 86 and they were on it. I will take a picture next time I'm at the car.
