So I have a 68 charger with a crate 5.9 in it and a edelbrock 600 carb. Running an orange box and single ballast with electronic distributor. I've had this car running as recent as 3 weeks ago w no issues. Now today I go to start on body work and no start. Fuel had gravitated back to tank so I hooked up an electric pump to prime it back up and them switched back to the mechanical. It has spark and it has fuel. When I try to start the motor turns and I get maybe one sputter like it's trying to fire and that's it. My question is am I missing something electrical here? Could a bad ignition part cause this? Could it be the valves needing adjustment now that this new crate motor has run a little?

Replace the orange box temporarily with another box and see what happens. Make sure the box is grounded good to the body or it will get hot and burn out. Any box will due for testing if it starts it was the box. There have been lots of problems with the orange box.

Also make shure your eng is also grounded to the body , I had one hell of a time not thinking about that on one of my builds , are you shure your getting spark though at each cly if you are then elc isn't your problem . Got a pic of your eng bay maybe someone can spot the problem, if there's no spark check your Orange box and also your bal resistor it could of been cracking and you doing body work might have bothered it enough to brake the connection good luck

Like mentioned above, check the ballast resistor. I've seen a couple of them burn out, and the engine will almost start, then die as soon as you start to let off the key.
