I have a '65 Coronet P.S Automatic manual brake car.

I am going to put 440,,727,,TCI 3" headers, all schumacher motor and trans mounts in it.

My question is can the motor and trans go in bolted together or do they have to go in one piece at a time?

If it's two pieces do I connect them before the headers go in??

Do I try to slip the headers in when the engine is mostly in.

The engine bay is nicely painted body colour so I want to make this as easy as possible.

I have lots of moving pads for protection but they only do so much.

Thanks in advance for all the help

The best way to put them in all bolted together would be to mount the engine on the k frame and lower the car down over the drivetrain like the factory built them. This can be a pita if you dont have a lift though.

From the bottom is the only way to go, especially with a tight engine compartment that has headers.

In my opinion, the pain it will be to lift the front of the car and get the K-Member under it will be WAY LESS than the PITA it will be to get all the parts fit in AND have your nicely painted engine bay survive unscathed. When installing from the bottom of the car, you can assemble everything out of the car: engine, headers, trans, linkage, starter, all engine accessories, etc.

I've done it a dozen times the other way, though.

Yes, putting the headers in with the engine about halfway in helps a lot.

This time I pulled only the engine, and it was a LOT easier than both together.

Next time I will likely try the bottom.

Well it's done. I put the engine and trans together. Without the starter.
Lots of furniture pads to protect the paint, lots of angle on the slings and dropped it in through the top.
Kind of shoe horned the right side header in and put a couple of bolts in it.
While the engine was still quite high(deep oil pan above the K) I slipped the left header up from below.
Wow it was simple . It seemed when it wouldn't go in anymore I changed the height and it just kind of slipped in more.
For an old guy and his old wife we did good. No time at all and it was in.
I have to say I'm glad we did it that way but most of all those schumacher mounts and TTI headers fit fantastic.
Thanks for all the help
