Hey guys, I'm dealing with a guy with a '67 GTX who says the fender plate is missing. Now I know these were just screwed on and could therefore get lost but is this a red flag or just an inconvenience. The VIN he gave is valid...
Brian

The VIN denotes the GTX
M is 440
J is Hemi
Only 2 engines available on the GTX
(But you knew this)

I know because I JUST purchased a 67 GTX w/ no fender tag.

Do yourself a FAVOR, search on the Forum..."Fender tag GTX" Fender tag missing" Etc.
It's been covered dozens of times here already.
Remember:
GTXs have a 150 mph speedo
Different number of LEAF spring count on right side.

The tag connects the body number to the options on the car. it is a short summary of your build sheet. Without it you will just have a difficult time Identifying how the car was equipped, and no way to compare the sequential order number on the body to the car. It's still worth money, just not as much. Now, find the build sheet, and you are off to the races!

Hmmm, I didn't know about the leaf springs. I'm hoping the guy finds a broadcast sheet somewhere to give me another layer of VIN authenticity. I found another "GTX" on CL in Seattle that the owner says is 100% GTX. Look at the pics and tell me what you see.

I told her my concerns so we'll see if the ad gets edited.

@superbeeski. It wasn't from Oregon was it?

Just thought of something. Did '67 GTX have a column shift option? I've seen such cars listed.

120 mph not GtX. but that can be replaced. Column shift GtX's were made. all Bucket seats, though. springs, seven on one side, six on the other.

The speedo and the Satellite side trim pretty much says it all. Obviously not 100% GTX, probably a Satellite in disguise, or, maybe a GTX in Satellite disguise? No VIN given so who knows.

The GTX and Satellite back seat are the same. But the similarities end there.

Pretty sure "L" was the VIN code for 440 in 1967.

All the body mods listed above will help, as will a carefull inspection to see if the VIN tag looks like it's been removed/replaced.

It the VIN is legit, it's real GTX, if the fender tag is missing, it's still a real GTX. If the VIN plate is missing, you could tie the fender tag to the SO number stampings and still have a real GTX.

No vin tag is really going to hurt the value of the car.Is there a build sheet?

You know,
If that is what owning the car is all about.
To me, it isn't.

I used to play the "numbers-game", but not now.
The Vin of the car denotes it is a GTX.
Yes: As 68383GTS states: It is not worth as much....
But the way I look at it is: It's a GTX, either and M-code (440) OR a J-code (426 Hemi)
Same as owning a GTO, in 1964-1966 they were a LeMans w/ a GTO option...w/out paperwork it is hard to prove.
Or a 67 "435-car" Vette, w/ out the "Protecto-Plate" and or "Tank Sheet" it is hard to prove.

BUT: If you are happy with the car, enjoy!

1966Mopar:The good thing about a pre-68 MOPAR is that there is a GOOD chance Chrysler Historical Services has an IBM card with your cars info.

Thanks YY1, your correct on the 440 code!
L=440 High Performance
J= Hemi
Thanks man!

Mine came without a fender tag also. Very common that this is missing for some reason. Mine did have the Certicard that just slides into a holder and is not screwed on!

I think a missing fender tag significantly lowers the value of an otherwise higher end car. Not sure I would buy if it didn't have one.

Unfortunately true. pre-69 even more so. Just pay less, and drive the car.

No Fender tag, be careful.
