I hate snakes

He is in the woods. I've been seeing a lot of Snakes lately. I was in Panama from 1992 to 1996. I liked Minot. Worst base ever was Cannon AFB in Clovis NM

photo (1).jpg Kitty was stalking this Red rat snake in back yard and I yelled at her to leave it alone. She sat down as if to say who me?
As a kid, I always had turtles, snakes and lizards. I remember one time I had a similar snake like this and I had to get a cage ready for it. Put it in a pillow case, tied a knot in the top and left it in my bedroom temporarily. Mom was doing wash that day, saw the pillow case, untied the knot and dumped what was in the case. I never heard her scream before. Poor Mom.

Only 4 snakes that Im afraid of; Big ones, little ones, dead ones, & alive ones. The rest are ok.

Snakes are an important part of the balance of nature. Blue indigos are my favorite. They kill rattlers.

Rattlesnake is a pussy. Now a Cottonmouth, that's a snake with an attitude. And it's not a good one. Very territorial, they think you need to leave now. Don't miss that part of the Midwest at all.

It's interesting that someone that hates snakes would choose to live in Florida where there's some kind of reptile lurking damn near everywhere you look.

This time of year snakes are active in Florida. I had black racers in my back yard Wednesday but I'd rather see them than rattlers. I'll post a pic if I get a chance. I also have turtles that live in my yard. I live on the isthmus between the Atlantic ocean and Halifax river. Its always interesting mowing the yard.

I was with the 5th OMS Jan 71-aug 72. Back then SAC was for real. A large group of very serious people. I remember a retired Gen Curtis Lemay showing up for a visit. I never saw so many officers quaking as that day. Then there were the ORI's, alerts, and the constant harassment. I was Outside almost all the time, Servicing Hueys on the flightline,( heavy flying schedules) at 5:00 in the morning. Unless the wind chill got to -60. Then, Sac was nice enough to let us come in from the cold.
The food was usually cold, and the NCOIC for the chow hall was arrested for stealing food and selling it off base.(1972) After that, no place seems cold to me. We wore our parkas in the barracks watching one of two channels, and took turns getting up to scrape the frost from the screen so we could watch a football game. No snakes though!

After that, Howard AFB was great, as long as I stayed out of the jungle, and away from my buddy when he was looking for bait,(who couldn't resist picking snakes up and putting them in buckets), I was fine. he would put them in the bucket with the land crabs, and the snakes would try to bite the crabs, to no avail. I also wasn't a fan of seeing sharks schools as we flew over them, so I listened to that engine pack very closely whenever we went out to sea.

I have never been to Clovis, but was at Kirtland AFB for a while.

Yup, it's a shame that folks won't educate themselves about wild life at least what's native to their area. We move in on their territory and then kill everything for whatever reason. One day I was out riding my bike and saw a buddy down the street just a beating the **** out of his front lawn so I pulled in to see what was up. He was trying to kill a garter snake but wasn't having much luck but did hit it a time or two. Brought it home and released it out back where it slithered off kinda slowly. Don't know if it survived or not. There's just no reason to kill something just because you think it's bad. Read up on them!!

I have a long history with snakes. In SE Kansas NE Oklahoma we had lots of snakes. Lots of Cottonmouths and Copperheads. Killed almost every snake I came across because that's what I thought you were supposed to do. Really came close to walking into a Cottonmouth. I was watching the pond bank up ahead for bullfrogs, not watching where I was walking. Almost bumped into a Cottonmouth that was raised 2 feet off the ground ready to strike.

We have had several pet snakes. Sampson has been biting lately. Red tailed Boa about 6' long. Last week my son showed me his bite. He had about 20 holes in his hand with two parrallel rows of teeth.

Go to the Rattlesnake Round up in Waynoka, OK. Now that's a party. https://www.facebook.com/waynokarattlesnakehunt It's next weekend let's go!!!
