Torq. conv. question please help

I have a 3500 stall and it has some weight's tacked on it , now what I need to no is if this conv. is for a cast crank motor and if it is can I remove the weight's for my motor it has a steel crank.

Thanks for you help

The cast crank motors had weights added to the torque converter to externally balance the motor, as well as a harmonic balancer meant only for a cast crank motor. So I would say yes, you can remove the weights, and make sure the converter is balanced by itself. Then make sure the engine is internally balanced, along with the front balancer. Then you should be OK.

My motor has a steel crank and is internally balanced , I always thought the same as you.

I have knocked off a convertor weight to use it on an internally balanced engine with success.

Just use a cut off wheel, I've removed the weights and re welded as needed to many converters over the years. You shouldn't have any problems taking off the weight. I've been using a 4200 stall for years in different engine configurations.

If they are thin weights on the side of the converter they may have been installed to balance the converter when it was built. The weights for engine balance will be between the mounting pads on the face of the converter on the engine side

yeah they were by the bolt lug so I knocked them off .
