How many spray cans of undercoating would i need to do the undercarriage of my b body, the wheel wells are already done? What about those spray guns they sell and should i buy the cans that they screw on to? Is there a lot of overspray when using them---Thanks

2-3 depending how thick you lather it on.

steve the over spray when using a gun and air compressor can be controlled by how much pressure you run at the gun, your still going to want to hang paper all around. I know this will sound real low tech but after you unbolt and remove anything you do not wish to have undercoat on, anything still on the car , leaf springs ect get yourself a couple rolls of cheap aluminum foil and cover up.
that stuff will conform to any shape plus you do not have to fight trying to get tape to stick. when your done the foil peel right off.

Do you think undercoating will hold moisture? are is paint be a better choice. Are is por that they say will stop rust. Anyone have any thoughts on undercoating.

Only on spots you went light on the spray or missed, if you let it dry all the way it should be good to go, my car had factory undercoating and I just touched it up and did the wheel wells and used 5-6 cans of the tall rustoleum stuff tall can.

As far as the POR-15 I think you are referring to it works, messy but works. I personally have tried some of that and the rust bullet stuff both work the rust bullet is thinner but coats well and is easier to apply. Depending on the amount of rust if its a lot you may want to cut it out and replace / repair?

I've removed undercoating from many cars and have found hidden rust underneath. Personally, I don't like it and rather have the bottom of my cars painted. Epoxy primer then semi gloss black or body color and single stage is fine.

Times 3 for me too Cranky. Mostly it is found on cars that are from those climates that have extreme weather and use corrosive accelerates...Damn Salt...to melt the stuff. Z-Bart comes to mind as I grew up in Chicago and have some experience in adverse weather. But it can hide damage already there and is a cheap way of cleaning up that rust worm. Now the Por-15 route will work to halt the spread of rust but it only encapsulates verses repairs the rust and then at a later point in time will have to be treated. I have it on my 66 Plymouth Satellite and left it alone as the car is a Western can and it was most likely used due to the weather up in the Mountains that are in my area. But I have absolutely no rust any where and what I did scrape off during the build the rest I left because who really is going to look at the bottom of my car in the first place. Undercoating is an *** pain to remove too...DAMHIK...Cr8crshr/Tuck

If you use a product like a Cosmoline, it will not let water or moisture get under it. I like a product called "Tectyl". By F&L Petroleum Products.

It's in Long Beach California. 562/432/1301. Tectyl -506.

I striped my 47 Buick frame to bare metal then por 15ed it all let it dry 2-3 days then hit it with under coating ,it was a bit over kill but when I dumped the project the frame was set out in the back yard and stayed there for 3 years in Florida s costic elements. Not one problem on it and it still looked new with a wash .
It was very messy spraying that undercoat ,still on the floor where it was sprayed(lay tarps)
Good luck
