Hyrdgoon's - project angrybird

Got the bird into the shop today to go through the spring list and hit a few snags that I wasn't prepared for and one surprise I'm not happy about.

Pulled the oil pan to replace the windage tray and cork gasket with the one piece summit tray and found a few little teeth in the bottom of the pan. Took a closer look and they're from the timing gear. No real idea what would cause this I've been in touch with CME and it sounds like they'll send a new gear and chain but I definitely find this odd... the only thing that stands out is potentially a defective part to begin with.

Had to notch a bit out of the new tray to clear the oil pick-up as was done on the old tray. New tray was also about 1/4" more shallow.

Got the new billet water neck with O-ring seal installed to replace my leaky chrome POS

working on an issue with my parking lights since I installed LED and my mechanic made a cool suggestion that he's done in the past to magnify the brightness of LED's but at the same time take away from the effect of seeing each individual bulb by cutting a piece of a diffuser. The piece i cut/used was the same as would be layered into a laptop screen.

My silicone "re-usable" valve cover gaskets both had a split in them so those both need to be replaced as I was getting some leaking again on both sides and I found a split starting in the sway bar mount that will get welded up tomorrow a.m.

Aside from that when I left today he was going to make a harness for the LED's on my new Halo lights so those will be done when I grab the car tomorrow as well.

Here's some pics of most of what I mentioned!

Man that stinks but at least they're fairly easy fixes and I like the idea for the parking lights too (never liked seeing the bulbs). Good luck getting her back on the road!

Damn near impossible to get a good pic of the Halo's but here is the best I can do. They look better than I anticipated I was actually worried they were going to "french up" the car

Got everything sorted except the timing gear which CME has agreed to send me the replacement parts for (they also offered to do the repair if I could bring them my motor but clearly that doesn't work for me)

I'm going ahead and ordering Magnum Forces double adjustable UCA which should allow the forgiveness I need to get an alignment but since I'm doing a Magnum Force order I have been seriously debating getting the drop spindles at the same time. I just need to call them and see if it works with the disc brake conversion that was done on my car.

Also had to swing by the local dealer and grab a photo op with the first Hellcat in town.

Goon she's a beauty! You're few mishaps away from most of us! I've had many myself. The one with the stuff in the trunk hasn't happened to me - and won't because I've heard it several times.

Love wathcing your treads because they help me with my 68 GTX project. Hope at some point down the road I'll be able to help you with some question or problem.

I'm a bit surprised at the price. I thought it would be more....but overpriced anyhow. For the Americans, with your stronger dollar a bargain at US$62,411.

I had the exact same reusable gaskets that you use and had the same splitting problem. It only happened on the side that kept leaking and I kept tightening it. The other side is fine. I ordered another set from summit and replaced the bad one...now I have a spare. That side still leaks even after filing off the strange nubs I found (in another post). Todays job is to take it apart again and file down more and check that my valve cover isn't bent.

Any more leaks with the new water neck? I finally got mine to seal. I bought a 'cast' one from Napa, painted it, and installed with no gasket but used 'The Right Stuff'. No leak so far.

Funny I was going to buy that single piece windage tray and replace mine since I was changing the gaskets anyway. I decided not to since I already had the gaskets. No leaks so far!

This place is all about helping and sharing ideas so I'm glad if this thread is able to help in any way. As long as we all keep paying it forward we all win!

I'll admit I was a bit bummed about the valve cover gaskets splitting. I replaced both and have it buttoned up again now and we were able to run the car on the lift for a while to confirm the new windage/gasket and everything else was finally sealed up. I'll have to check my covers for the same strange nubs.

The new water neck solved that issue nicely. Finally sealed around there but we also ran a little bead of "right stuff" around the O-Ring just for safe guard. I was able to use some aluminum rim cleaner and get most of the antifreeze stains off the water pump housing now that it's not still dripping down.

Has your new handle from Nick showed up yet?

Went to the track yesterday for my first time ever just as a spectator along with a couple guys bracket racing. I definitely can understand the addiction that looked like a blast. And go figure the only B Body Mopar there making passes happened to be an Orange 69 Roadrunner. Got a chance to talk to the owner the car made a 9:20 and a 9:21 that I saw but thew owner said it is typically capable of an 8.80

That Roadrunner is SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad to hear you've got the RR all squared away, happy motoring.

Hey Mike, I hope you get a chance to try out your car on the track and have some fun.It was the same for me I hadn't been to a dragstrip until last year and this year was the first time I had the car running to try it.
I like the Halo lights I have been thinking about doing the same on my car.

Yes I received my grips. Mine got tagged at the border and I had to pay an extra $48 for taxes and fees. When using USPS its like a lottery...most get through while some get checked and taxed. If you courier it always gets taxes, as far as I heard. Its about the only lottery I ever win.

LMAO!!!! I'll see if I can make it happen. It would be a hell of a drive in the bird from here so I need to see if I can find a way to trailer it at least most or part of the way. Possibly get to Ohio and drive out with Dev.

Man, ive been putting a whole bunch of new things on the 73 tonight i went and got a new upper radiator hose and what it hooks to on the intake appears to be the same,,, as yours... and now,,, i need a headlight.
guess what im thinking my friend! :)

ThAt orange RR above is a hell on wheels. Wheely bars and a parachute.... Yikes. Smokin...... As Jim Carey would say. That's your car in a few years.... Aye. I used to go to the strip often back in the day when I lived in Minnesota (my home town). Had a bunch of trophies for the nights I ran. Pretty much stock back in those days. How things have changed since those days. I love your thread and have been peeking for awhile. My car will be done this summer. Too late for my trip to Minneapolis next week. Be there for a month but my guy is soooooo slow.

thx for keeping us all in the loop on your progress. I learn from it. I wish yOu luck on making it to nats. Wish I could go. But like you - that's a long drive if my cars back with me in CA. It would be a fun get together.

Well since I haven't posted anything since May last year I guess it's time to start the next phase of updates and try and keep you guys in the loop.

Never would have thought I would be driving the car mid February but the shop called today and said "It's gorgeous out bring us the car and we will get started" SO I DID!!

Here's a pic of the car and some of the parts getting packed up and ready to go:

So to re-cap when I get the car back in Spring it should be Procharged with a 6 speed, a custom Dakota Digital VHX dash and have new tubular UCA's and dropped spindles up front.

New wheels were also just ordered although not sure if they will make it on the car this season as I want to do brakes and need to buy rubber still.
