I installed a new viscous drive fan clutch on my motor. It has no slop, and the belts are correctly tightened. But when I rev the motor in neutral hard, you can hear the clutch, and it as loud as the motor.

Has anyone experienced this before with the original type fan clutch?

I don't hear mine. Either describe it or send us an audio clip. Is it a shreik?

Take it off and send it back. Sounds like the grease has left the bearings. Happens all the time if not stored or shipped right. There should have been a note on the box, store this side up and always store that side up. There should have been a packaging note in the box explaining all this. Hope you have good luck on the replacement.

Hypothetically, they can be set on their face and the fluid will return in a couple/few years. It's pretty darned thick stuff.

I'll try to post a video of it. The sound isn't a constant one, only sometimes on a hard rev in neutral.
