Sorry guys, but I have been trying to find a hot source ( with the key on )to hook the red wire from my electric fuel pump to. They say the starter relay, but with my meter there is no hot when the key is turned on just a hot all the time. I only want the fuel pump on when the key is turned ( i will put a shutoff switch under the car between this ) Thanks. There is no hot in my fuse box that is hot when key is turned on i could rob from.

Half of your fuse box should be hot with ignition on

There will be a (red) lead from the battery to starter relay, hot all the time. Another wire (yellow on my 67) is hot when you turn the key to start, that's what triggers the relay. When you release the key it kills the starter (run position). Do you have electrical prints? What year is your car?

Sorry guys its a 68 gtx 440. I did not want to tap into the hot side of the fuse box 440+6. Yeah I see the wire your talking about 69 runner (think its gold, brown down to starter on my car ). I just wonder if I did not have the key turned far enough ( run position you say) to get the wire hot going down to the starter. I have schematics. I will go back out and check that. Thanks. O.K went back out and turned the key in all positioned. I dont see a hot going down to starter when key is turned on (checked with meter ) Here is my relay. Checked all the contacts for 12v when key turned.

When I did my electric fuel pump install I tapped into the accessory fuse. On my 1969 charger it is supposed to be for the rear window defrost that my car wasn't optioned with. There is a tab on the back of the box that fits a standard pigtail just right. It's the 4th fuse from the right labeled RR A/C up top and ACC down low.

I hope all that makes sense. Here are some photos:

I don't think the starter relay is the place to connect, none of those points are hot only in "on", either hot all the time or when key is in "start", the 4th is ground to neutral start switch.. The best place to connect is the side of fuse box that's hot when key is "on", & use an inline fuse of appropriate size for the fuel pump you're using.

Like above says it's perfect, use big enough wire for your specific pup.

When the key is turned all the way to the right (start) then the yellow wire is hot, which pulls in the coil. When you release the key it's in run, the starter disengages. Don't you want the fuel pump to run at all times while the key is in RUN?

I'm listening. Mine is on a separate toggle hot when ignition is on. I'd like to get the shut-off switch that operates upon accident or rollover so it doesn 't continue to burn like that Camaro race car video.

So here is a trick I found a long time ago, how long im not telling.. The wire harness block on the engine side of the cowl there is a pair of wires that run to the back up switch under the car. One of the wires is key on hot when the key is on. The other side is only on when your in reverse. From the factory it was a 15 amp circuit, I don't exactly know why. This information applies to 1968, 1969, 1970 at least probably every car with a backup light circuit. But this is a relatively simple and easy location to pick up 12 volt ignition switched power...

you might try following the hot wire from your ignition coil back to the firewall connection.

Why not hook the pump through it's own circuit with it's own switch? That way it would also serve as a kill switch.

The fuel pump should be wired directly to the battery and then be activated with a relay that is energized when the key is turned on. If you are installing a pump shutoff switch, wire the relay to an accessory like the radio circuit.
If you want to add a fancy pump shutoff switch you can get one that shuts off with loss of oil pressure. I think Holley has them.

I like the reverse light idea. I did plan on putting a kill switch in because of theft control. I did not know some of the fuse box was hot only when key on. I thought 1 side of the fuse box was always hot. Went through fuses and then to switches to control them. My fuse box is all used up( only have 4 fuses) I Don't have a rear defogger place. I wanted to thank every one for the ideas.

Thank you. You are 100% correct. There is a hot( ignition on ) in half of the fuse box. That's where I will pick up my hot and run it to a hidden switch ( anti theft ) and on to the fuel pump.

Connect a relay to the emergency brake light wire in the dash,it powers with the key in start and run position of the ignition switch.
