Im looking to rewire my 1969 superbee. Im going to put aftermarket autometer gauges in the car. Has anyone used an aftermarket painless/ron francis/etc. wiring kit in their car. I have a m&h wiring harness in my charger and it was really expensive. I think the headlight switch and wiper motor might be a bit tricky to wire. Any input would be great!! Thanks

I wish i had a good answer for you but i was just looking to see if someone else could magically have the fix because i am about to rewire my 68 charger and cannot decide on M&H or Painless. Good luck i hope you get the answers you need.

So I did my 69 with the Ron Francis Acces 24/7 kit... Overall it was fine, but there are 2 issues I had....

First I should say that I'm using all auto meter gauges.

1. I don't like the Access fuse block, from the standpoint that you can shorten the wire runs at the fuse block.. It forces you to be perfect with measuring the runs and layout in advance, which I was not. This may not be an issue for someone who has their car completely apart, but for me with the dash still in, it was annoying.

2. The headlight wiring for the Ron Francis kit is not designed to work with the mopar headlight switch on my 69... It takes a lot of work to get it working right.

That said, the quality of the wiring provided seemed to be very good.

Thank you. Im thinking of going with the stock dash harness and buying the gauge wiring kit from autometer. Not sure what other modifications i have to do to the dash harness but seems the easiest route.

I am in the process of rewiring my 65 Belvedere with a Ron Francis Express kit. I'm about done after two full weekends, will hopefully finish by next weekend. When I had Auto Meter gauges, I just made my own harness and used a Painless 7 relay kit to control power to all the gauges and a couple of accessories.

With the Express kit I have now, it includes a new Headlamp switch that basically works like the old one, and there are a few details that I had to adapt to since I've basically eliminated most of the factory components. I'm running a full MSD ignition: 6Al, Dist, Coil, a FAST EZ-EFI, Be Cool twin cooling fans, and Dakota Digital gauges.

The express is pretty easy to follow if you've done wiring before - I've always done stereos, alarms, lighting, etc., and built my own circuits. This is the first time I've rewired an entire car, and oddly enough even the Express panel with 18-20 circuits is almost not enough for what I'm doing. But again, I'm running far more than the factory's 8 circuit fusebox allowed.

Here's what I did with my Auto Meter gauges:

I recommend buying a relay circuit for running a set of aftermarket gauges so you can provide individual power to each gauge. The factory fusebox isn't great for aftermarket components, and even on a more modern car I had I noticed that pressing the brake affected a couple of my add-on gauges. When I did my Auto Meter, I bought a 7 circuit relay that was connected directly to the battery with 4 'switched' relays to power my gauges. Plan it out first - make drawings of the gauges and draw each wire and determine where they will go. That's how I've always laid out my wiring. But then, I'm one of those people who loves to do electrical work on a car where most people I've met hate it. LOL

Thank you for the reply. I heard good things about Ron Francis wiring and like the idea of the relays. Its the headlight switch and 3 speed wiper motor wiring that kind of worrys me but the stock harness is pretty pricey. In going to check out there website and see what they have to offer. Thank you so much

yes I have taking all factory wiring out and replaced it with a 21 circuit painless mopar harness. I also have all autometer electric gauges with sensors, even used the speedo VVS from autometer no more cables. it works great just gotta take your time and really read it the directions, if u have issues I can help as mine is all wired up and working greatView attachment 2888192015-05-30 17.05.21.jpg2015-08-30 15.31.05.jpg

to keep from jumping piggy back from guage to guage,I just installed a few bus bars(available from fry's)on the back of my dash.1 power wire, split to each guage.made for a much more stable power supply to each guage.did the same with ground and lights.there should be picks on my profile.dont have any pics on this computer.
