Mufflers of choice for a high horsepower car?

Hooker competition ceramic headers tied to flow master American thunder system out to the back. Nice and throaty with good performance aspects as well.

I appreciate all the info and sound clips. It makes it easier to actually hear some of them. I've been running the Dynomax but since it is time for new ones I thought I would see what else people are using. I am planning on cutouts in the system but need to save a bit more.

Sounds really nice
TTi headers with a 3" x pipes and Dynomax mufflers. 600-650 horsepower and it is loud.

It is much louder under load than my iPhone can capture since I had the engine rebuilt over the past winter. I can not explain it, but the same exhaust system for four years sounded great, but now it is obnoxiously loud after the rebuild.

One reason I went with the Dyno-Max Ultra-Flows was that they are basically a straight thru muffler and I knew I was going to race my car capped up all the time so I wanted a very good flowing muffler and I also like the sound of them. The Flow Masters on my sons Dart slowed it down almost 2 tenths when he had it all capped up which is also another reason I dont like Flow Masters since I wanted the best performance muffler not so much the best sounding. Course if you plan to run cutouts and open them at the track then it really is not so important how good the muffler flows that you use. Ron

race bullets!! those won't slow it down a bit, i had a set i use to run on my belvedere. it was faster with them. i might try some ultraflows on my RR eventually. need to get the best times out of i can with the present combination to see what effect the mufflers have if any.

Hooker aero chambers
nice sound at low rpm , noisey at high rpm . no drone
I have them with Hooker competition headers and 3" mandrel bent exhaust I built , dumps at diff .

Tex

Here is my system (Hooker Super Competition Headers). 3" exhaust pipes all the way back with Magna-Flows...but...was still too loud for me so I bought "CC Inserts" (Summit or Jegs now has them) and inserted them into my header collector between header and exhaust pipe. It really made it quiet...so much I could pull up beside a cop and rev it up to 5000RPM and he could not give me a ticket for loud pipes. For more "street" performance I take out the CC Inserts. When I take it to the drags I just drop the entire exhaust system and run it out the open headers (saves about 90lbs also, total).
PS: When I set up the exhaust system I welded in the old fashioned "lake plug cut-outs" but I have never opened them.

I'll get a video up on YouTube soon. I'm in the middle of swapping intakes and putting in a new rad. The car sounds amazing. Personally I love the Borla sound but it is loud. The way a 572 ci Hemi should be.

Hooker super comp 2" primaries, 3.5" collector, 3.5" QTP cutouts, 3.5" flowmaster 50's, 3.5" turn-downs.

545hp... obnoxiously loud & I love it... others do too! You would not believe the thumbs up and cool car comments I get, on second thought... you probably do!

Harley's are no match for a built 440 with open headers...hehe.

3" Dyno Max 17221's behind 2" TTI's. A good performance muffler and a sound that will get you through the neighbourhood. The flow masters are too shrill and raspy for my personal liking.

550 HP. Had Flowmasters. Terrible drone, couldn't drive it around town (brap, brap, brap).

Removed them and put on Magnaflows with small resonators. Perfect sound for me.

I think I will use the Dynomax product on my mild built 383. Just not sure which ones to use. Anyone know about the differences ??

Google these Dyno Max numbers: For 2.5" 17219 or 3" 17221. You'll find out all you need to know. These are fully welded 14/19", offset inlet/centre outlet and I think 409 stainless from what I vaguely recollect. Excellent cfm flow. Every muffler is the best according to their manufacturer of course.
Good luck!

4" race bullets, proved to be the least restrictive but they are loud as hell on the street. I am over 650HP though.
