Another Sunday, another issue with the Cordoba!

She has been running fine all spring, starts right up, idles fine, drives fine. All of a sudden, the other day I start her up, she idles for about 5 minutes and then the engine shuts down. After that, it's very difficult to start again.

This has happened a couple times now. Starts right up when cold, cuts out then hard start.

I thought it might be the fuel pump. Any thoughts?

As always, any advice is appreciated.

Oh yeah, it's a 400 with electronic ignition (converted from lean burn).

You need to find out what is going away to make it shut off. Spark, fuel, too much fuel and flooding out. Check the choke. Isnthat working? Or does it stay closed. When it shuts off and will not start is when you need to check for spark and fuel delivery. Hopefully that wi give you and idea

When it stalls pull the air cleaner lid off and check for a fuel smell. Possible sticky choke.

I see in your picture/avatar that the Cordoba is on a trailer. Did it go a long time without being run? Mine sat for 6-7 years. I developed a lot of corrosion in the tank, fuel filter and carb. When I first got it, it ran fine. Then developed problems like yours. Will start and run, then quit and hard to start. If you pull the fuel filter and reddish brown stuff comes out then check the tank for corrosion. Good Luck, Tim

The guy I bought it from drove it up to me on the trailer. It has been running well for two and a half years since I bought it.

Also check and clean all of the connections and grounds for the electronic ignition. I have a buddy with a 74 Cuda and a similar problem. One of the connectors on the wiring going to the dist. had a bit of corrosion and after a good cleaning he was back in business. Good luck.

I did this today as well as installed a new fuel filter (though the old filter showed no signs of crud in it). One or the other seemed to help, as she fired up again and has been running fine ever since.

Thanks all!
