Anyone know anything about them? I see an acrylic urethane paint kit on line. It says it is Hawthorne Starfire acrylic urethane. It's a single stage paint. I came across this looking for Nason brand which is what I have used before, but it was an acrylic enamel. The urethane paint says it's a 2.8 voc. I've seen this before but don't know what it pertains to. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Nason has their own acrylic urethane single stage. I used it on my wheels and door jams& under the hood and trunk looks great. pictures on some my past threads

V.O.C. means volatile organic compounds. I ve never used unknown brands, best to use well known quality product, Ppg, DuPont, glasurit, etc

When I first used Nason brand 20 some odd years ago it was an unknown brand to me then. It was a Dupont second brand. For the price I used it then. I'm painting the car myself and for the price I'm interested.

If price is a factor, check out Pro-Spray. Reasonably priced and better than Nason or Omni.

A really good brand for stock colors is Kirker paint available from Smart Shoppers auto supply, which is a internet company. Good Quality and better than Omni or Nason.

If you use single stage don't use a metallic color unless you have sprayed this before. Color sanding will affect the metallics in the paint as will the buffing procedure. Usually the cheaper paints have less solids so it will take more paint to cover. Good luck.

Also, Acrylic urethane paint requires an activator. So you should use a air supplied respirator to avoid Isocyanates .

Thanks for the heads up letsroll I was planning on using a cartridge type respirator. I'll look into one that can filter those now.

5wndewcpe is right! It all depends on price. My car was shot with basf paint. Its like looking in a mirror. Very happy with it. Although I did not paint the car myself. Good luck!

Folks here say " better than Nason" What makes those paints mentioned better than Nason?.....................................MO

I did find the Kirker brand but when I looked for the color it came in 3/4 gallons, that might be enough for thre outside of the car but I need t redo the door jams and inside the trunk and hood. I know that I need a full gallon. The last time I painted it I put 3 coats on it and. It took 3/4 of a gallon. I didn't even know there was a 3/4 gallon can? Thanks for your input.

The stuff Summit sells is made by Kirker and you get a full gallon and if over $99 you get free shipping.

I am ignorant on this subject, but wish that I could get the R/T sprayed with straight Y2 enamel at Maaco. Here in California. I like the look. Like back in the day. Don't need clear.

My local paint store sells Nason and I am about ready to paint my car. I never got input from my previous question (see above).........................................MO

I would have to second that Kirker is a pretty good paint as well... I haven't sprayed their color products yet, but I'm currently spraying some grey epoxy primer from Eastwood (which I'm pretty sure is Kirker). It lays down smooth and sands really nice. I've got a sand rail that I'm about to paint this summer too, and I will more than likely buy one of their single stage urethane colors, which according to them can top coated with their clear coat for maximum shine and protection (but not required).

For me, Nason is thin and doesn't cover as well. Others state it does not have the uv protection that a line higher up in the food chain has, but I have no personal experience with that.

Don't get me wrong, it's a workable paint, but for my money, I'd rather go with the aforementioned Pro-Spray or Wanda.
