Hey guys,
Just joined last week, and posted a picture of my Roadrunner, but thought I'd post a few more pictures of how it looked when I bought it, during it's build, and how it looks today.
I purchased the car in 1997, at 15, I'm 33 now.
The first 3 pictures are of the appraisal done in 1996, before I saw it.
Here is how it looked when I first saw it. The previous owner was using it to tow a 17' boat. Had a trailer hitch on it and an alarm. I can't imagine it backing down into the water.....
Also, notice the short rear end, with the 'skinny' rear tires. They were BFG Trail T/A's. If you stood next to the fender looking at the rear, the car appeared to be floating back there.
When I saw this, the first thing that came to mind was "Not buying this one" But, I had already been looking at many cars and this one spoke to me.
This was also a mess:
So, once I got it ready for the street, I started taking it to some cruise nights. I had a couple approach me at one of them one night, telling me that this car "could use some serious power" That winter, I went to their shop, A & D Performance and we discussed some options on what they could do to the car.
The first thing I saw walking into their shop was a 383 with a tunnel ram. Right away I knew I wanted that. The owner use to have a 68 Roadrunner, and that 383 was out of his car.
Once the car actually got to the shop, it ended up being a very different discussion and the decision to cut the old crap out was made.
Here is a VERY young me:
The 440 out, and ready to go off to the machine shop:
Back from the machine shop, painted in Hemi orange:
Bullet proof 727 with a full manual reverse valve body, built by SMR here in Ontario Canada:
Later, it was decided to just go all out, and the whole car was cut. This is the old front end, which was already modified from all sorts of stuff to make up the disc brakes. You can also see part of the new frame that was already being built onto it, before the decision was made to cut the whole car.
Here is the start of the new frame and rack and pinion:
A little further along:
Fenders stripped, and back on the car. Here it's almost ready to make it's first trip to the body shop:
And when it came back the first time:
How it sits today:
Trunk, fuel cell in the middle, battery box on the right.
440 out to 496 now. 2 4bbl Barry Grant 650 carbs on a Mopar performance tunnel ram. 12.0-1 compression. B1 heads.
Underneath the car:
Painted in Dodge Viper black:
