People at car shows

So now the plan is to ban the disabled, ban the kids and ban what else from looking at OUR old junk???

The kids are the future of our hobby.

The disabled, LIKE MYSELF, cannot help their disability.

How about being polite, kind and civil....maybe even compassionate?
Who said you cant look? Look, but dont touch

Drove my car to Coney Island in Brooklyn Ny for the Rumblers car show. Not e regular place for a car show. You expose your car to many NON car people.Ever notice how they feel compelled to put their hand on the fender or an elbow on the roof so someone can take a pic with their smart phone?? I have smacked many a hand or elbow off the car and asked 'em what they were thinking?????
I'm a sucker for the youngins though:blob1:

image.jpg Mine is just driver quality, so I park it and forget it. I glare at idiots. Remember, it's the parents not the kids if their behavior is bad. I engage interested people with kids if seen. Usually it's not the age or conveyance, but the behavior.

I am disabled as well, but, will carry a collapseable chair with me toi use when I need to. I would never set up anywhere near any car, as I RESPECT the cars and their owners. I treat people as I would want to be treated. Respect is earned, not taken.

Once saw a guy eating a hot dog while looking over an engine bay, right over an open carb. I was so mad and it wasn't even my car.

Who said anyone was touching anything??

I would think profiling handi cappers and kids as the touchers is the issue I have.......

And if ANYONE makes a mistake and touches someones car rather than over react, which is the easy route to take, be civil......pretty simple......if they dont comply then escalate......but to be honest most the stories here i see are about "FAT" guys and gals sitting on hoods fenders, leaning.......i wouldnt want ANYONE doing that to my car..........regardless....

Well just exactly my point. Would you want to be classified as a careless idiot just because you are disabled???

I haven't begun to show my car yet because I have a couple of months of work left on it and it won't be done until the season is over. However I have concerns as many of you have mentioned. Ive never touched a car that wasn't mine at a show. Many cars have the signs on them and I respect that.

ill start showing the car next spring and use the sign method. I hope to not have any bad experiences or I'll not show mine either. I didn't go thru all this time, work, and money to have someone damage it. It would be a shame if you can't let the public view your car at rest w/o worrying about damage. A few fingerprints I can deal with - the rest would bother me.

I never leave the area where I am parked...and if someone's getting too close for comfort, or an unattended toddler is free...I will go near them...uncomfortably close and say please be careful

try this...or this....or just:eusa_think: part of the game...:eusa_doh:
BTW; I hate getting parked-in

Remember In The Old Days Some Of The Driver's Having Signs Painted On The Hood And Front Fenders Of Their Cars With The Words "Keep Off" Or "Don't Touch Aluminum" Or Even "You Dent It You Bought It"? How Do They Know That The Car Their Leaning On Isn't A Race Car?

Tender fender,,,,,,,,,
Never heard that one, cool name far a light weight car.

I've never really had problems with anyone all these years, I don't do shows at all but do go to allot of cruise nights, I'm happy to let people sit in my car if they want, I have never seen anyone molesting my car in any way (although I am rarely near it), nothing really bothers me much.
I'm there to have fun with friends and check out some cool cars, if I had to watch my car like a hawk and freak out if anything gets within 10 feet of my car I would never go.
I think I have a pretty nice car, but in the end it's just a car.

People, especially spectators, I believe for the most part understand and refrain from physical interaction with displays. But there's always someone that "sees with their hands."
IMO, it's Murphy's Law though. If it can happen it will at some point no matter how much one tries to prevent it. Seems if you have something nice (or not so nice like mine), there's a target on it. If it's not human it's nature. Every time you take your ride out it's going to be at risk. Setup an electric perimeter, post some armed sentries, or maybe a plastic bubble? Are you going to punch someone out at the car show and end up in jail? What can you realistically do but hope for no damage or to be able to repair and recoup the loss?

Even if you don't take it out it can be at risk also.
Remember these? >>>>>>

Those that brave any public showing of their vehicles provide a great service to future enthusiasts. If no one has said it yet, (and even if someone has), Thank you all!

Many years ago when we street raced alot we would cruise and park waiting for a race. There was this goober that hung around and he actually opened the hood of my Road Runner when I was talking to some friends, which instigated a very candid conversation about touching my car. A few weeks later, we were parked at the same place and my friends and I walked across the street to get a soda, upon returning the same idiot had my hood open leaning on the core support showing some people my engine. I promptly walked up behind him and slammed the hood shut on his hands- no issues after that. Couldn't do that now, you would go to jail.

More recently, we were at a cruise in and this guy walks up with his wife looking at my car, opens the drivers door and sits down in the car! I asked him WTF he was doing and he calmly replies that he was curious about my car and wanted to look inside. I asked him how he would feel if I was curious about his wife's boobs and asked her to open her shirt for a look inside. They left after that.

This past wednsday a guy came up to me and said " I had a satellite sebring just like this". I just walked away. I have a '67 coronet.

So that's why you walked away...I'm sorry. I'm old and my memory's not too good. Would have liked to hear about your car...

I must remember that one. I guess his wife was hot. You wouldn't risk it if she was ugly, she might just show you lol.
