Hi all, I currently reside in Illinois but my car is at my grandfathers up in Minnesota, soon I will have it paid off and he has agreed to store it for me for a while until I have a place to put it.

I am trying to find comprehensive only insurance as the car is not in running order (only sitting in storage so I don't need liability etc.), and will sit until I have it shipped to me, anyone know a good broker for this type of insurance?

Thanks

I don't think they will cover you for comp without a liability policy.

I have to ask do you think it is so safe nothing can happen to it? Are you prepared to be out the money you have paid toward purchase and get nothing. Things happen most often while being stored to these cars. I don't know what it is worth but I would get all the insurance I can so I don't have to absorb the loss if there is one...

Money in, money out. There is no easy way. I'm with the others. Heck, what if somebody took it for a "joy ride?"

As for ours, we have an agreed value on every vehicle except my teenage son's daily driver. That is insured at book value. This covers replacement cost on some hard-to-replace cars.

Your home insurance may not cover a car that is in your garage. Ask questions and sleep well.

There's a company in Minneapolis that's and independent agent that can give you some advice. The company's name is corporate four. Pm me and I'll give you the name and contact info for someone that can either handle it or give you some sage advice. One issue you may have is you living in IL and the car being registered in MN. I have a similar problem but it can be solved.

Home owners will definitely NOT cover a stored car. Don't ask me how I know, but I ended up restoring my Mustang twice.

Don't think the car has been registered for a long time, probably since the late 80s when it got parked in SD. Only way someone would joy ride it is on a trailer with its seized up /6. All of the quotes Ive gotten were for liability and uninsured motorist etc., I'm saying comprehensive only because it's in storage and the chance of me driving it and causing damage to someone else is zero. I may have to call whoever insurance to see how it could be arranged in such a way

Heacock is reasonable. Better safe than sorry. How much is it worth to you?

Call Hagerty and tell them it is under construction. Should get a good price per year for agreed value. They are great and really understand the classics insurance market, their roadside assistance is spot on too once you get your car ready for the road.

American Collectors! Referred to my wife and I through USAA. They are awesome and incredibly inexpensive, and insure your car for what YOU say it is worth. Her 65 GTO and my 70 V code Roadrunner are both covered by them.

I'll take a look, and at American Collectors too, just don't think im going to get what I want from an online quote, ill have to call directly.

If any of you people are using Ameriscam Collectors, Drop them like a hot potato!!! They lie BIGTIME to your face, can't send out renewals, don't give a **** about you or your policy, and they make up the rules as they go along. DROP THEM ASAP!!!

That is who I use for both of our cars. Recommended by USAA. I haven't had to make any claims.
So either here (preferably) or in a PM, I would really like some details specifically why you say this?

As the other members have suggested, Hagerty. I have fire, theft, damage on my car for years now as i restore it. The insurance is only to cover the car in case something was to happen while its being worked on, nothing else. As i invest more money into the car, every so often i call them and increase the coverage. To have a car that is unregistered and of value and not have insurance is risky, considering how inexpensive the coverage is. Just my opinion.

Another vote for Hagerty. Top of the heap in the collector car insurance business.

One thing to consider, though - is the title in your name?
Some insurance companies might have an issue with issuing a policy on a car you're not legally owner of.
