I just acquired a 1967 Plymouth Satellite that has been parked for 30 years on a CA Marine base. I have owned a '67 GTX and a '67 Satellite G code in the past (plus a plethora of '67 Coronets including 2 RT's) and regretted selling my last Satellite. I have been looking for years and found this one. I was the first one to get to it with cash and what a find! RP23H7 all original with no missing parts! 70k miles and since it was parked in 1985 I am guessing those are original miles. The H code HP 383 is untouched and has what appears to be all original parts including the one year only 67 dual snorkel air cleaner. It has 15” road wheels that look to be original with caps intact but I don’t know if they original to the car or not. The car has A/C too.

Now the bad. The vinyl top is rusted badly and I need a new one. I found two but one is not willing to crate for shipping and the other has not responded. Any help would be appreciated. Besides the rusted roof and soft lower quarters this car is STRAIGHT! And it has the original bucket seat console interior in incredible condition.

Side note: On the Marine base were many collectable cars including a 1969 GTO, 1964 Riviera AND A REAL A-12 Road Runner! Yep! A banged up blue RM23M9 car. They were super strict as to where they would allow me to go and I was only able to check the VIN before they started yelling at me. There were literally acres of cars and no one can just get on base to check them out so who knows what else is there.

Why are these cars sitting on a CA Marine base. Who owns the cars and how did you come to acquire one? Are they vehicles abandoned by the owners and now Government property subject to auction? There is more to this story. Pics?

Great questions. I found the car on craigslist and was the first to respond to the seller. He acquired the car from a friend who was a career Marine. The Marine base (Camp Pendleton) had a policy in place where storage for all Marines, currently serving and retired, paid $10.00 a month for storage. They just raised their fees and the retired Marine told his friend who he sold the car to that it had to be moved. What a hassle to even look at the car! We all had to be signed it and then an employee had to bee-line us directly to the car with no detours. The guide was a cool guy but his boss was very strict and he told us he could get fired when we asked him to tour us around on the gas powered 4 seater golf cart. He let me off to quickly check out the Road Runner VIN and his boss who was easily 50 years away started barking at us. I would estimate that there were at least 10 acres of cars in that area, on that base. Many were under covers. We tried repeatedly to get people to take us out but everyone gave us the same answer. “They could get fired for doing so.” I will try to locate via google earth and post a picture.

Cool story! I live right near there and never imagined there was stuff like this hiding there! Sweet car too.

I can get on the Base.
I'm retired USAF.
Is it 29 Palms or Oceanside?
I think El Centro is closed right?

Anyway, nice find!

Another one saved! Awesome! Keep the pictures coming as you work on it please.

Nice breather there. Hard to find.

Thanks guys. Yes I will post resto pics as soon as I start. Trunk is solid and so are the floors.

I'm retired A.F. myself.
I'm guessing 29 stumps.
I was TDY in there about 6 years ago, God that town's a dump!

I concur on the find!

I found the site using google maps:

101-199 Biddle Street, Oceanside, CA

Looks more like 5-6 acres from above. Small red circle is where my '67 Satellite was and the large red circle is where the A-12 Road Runner is. 1969 GTO is in the front row 5 cars in. Happy hunting!

I PURCHASED A 67 Belvedere II FROM A GUY STATIONED AT MOODY AFB IN GEORGIA ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO ON EBAY HE SAID THEY USED IT AS THE BASE CAR TO GO PICKUP PIZZA AND THINGS YOU CAN SEE IT IN THE BACK GROUND UNDER A TREE BEHIND MY BEAST _DSC4818.jpg

Cool story behind the find. I really like the black roof on pale yellow, for obvious reasons. Good luck with it!

If you can get on base ask for the recreation area where the cars are stored. Here's a picture of the gate you must enter.
