i'm looking to do a steering column swap for my car to move to a later start with transmission. I've read a lot that says the 1966 column is the one to use. And I am looking for that.

However, I did find a 1967 charger column, that I'm very interested in.

Does anybody know if the downsides to this or if it just won't work?

The car I'm working on is a 1965 Belvedere.

Thanks in advance.

column should be the same the handle is just different looking, the 66 handle looks like the 65, you can change the handle, don't know about the signal switch plug if it's different or not.

I went ahead and grabbed the 67 column today. It's a low cost gamble. Also scored linkage pieces between the column and the trans.

I'll mess with it a little later next week

FYI - 67 had to incorporate a collapsible feature for the feds. It's a bit larger diameter than the 66, takes special plastic inserts and different column cover underneath, and a larger horsehoe shaped trim piece over the column and between the dash trim. may be N/A for your 65.

I have a 66 column in my 65 belvedere. I used the 66 linkage too. Works great. I'll be interested to see how the 67 column works. Keep us updated!

Thanks for the input guys. Great info. Picked this column (with wheel) for $10 so it's a safe gamble either way

I have a complete '66 column with all linkage parts if the '67 won't work! Keep us posted, these interchange threads are a great resource.

Jeremiah, I sent you a private message. Please have a look and let me know what you think.
Thanks
Mike

Hosehead, You wouldn't by chance have any pics of your install showing the linkage that you could post/email would you?

Hi do you still have the 66 steering column for sale

I put a 66 column shift in my 65. Fit perfectly you just have to align the z bar with the bracket on the transmission . I did mine with the headers off and torsion bars out. You need a complete b body z bar assembly . You have to drill the frame for the inside bracket for the Z-bar . Your frame is not drilled for it because it was cable shift. I spent about four days mocking mine up . Make sure you have the little brass bushing in the arm on the steering column because believe it or not it'll be sloppy. If you have any other questions pm me.

Yup. I did my car like 65nutcase. The 66 column is a direct swap, wiring and all. Just have to get the z bar straight. I think I still have that linkage and some other stuff if someone is looking for it. I put a floor shift in my car as it's mostly driven at the track these days. Good luck!

Oh I forgot to ask are you using a column shift are you going to use a floor shift ? If you're using it the column shift that's the only time you need to worry about Z-bar. If you're using a floor shift then everything should hook up perfectly the columns physically the same and look the same the wiring harness is the same should be a plug-and-play.
