what should include on the carb with new rebuild to make it work with a 383 hp motor, mild roller cam,3.55 gears,727 trans, any improvements like jet size, power valves etc,i have heard that some new holleys need some improvements made on the internal parts? thanks

Johnny, buy a Good Holley book and read it.... all. Good luck.

Buy a Holley kit, not brand X, and rebuild it stock. The jet sizes and power valve can be found by Googling. Take care to use plenty of carburetor cleaner and blow it through every orifice. Follow up by blowing compressed air through all the same holes. Do the disassembly and re-assembly on a clean white towel so that small parts are easy to see. Pay close attention to centering the power valve gasket when you screw it into the metering block. Also, put a little WD-40 or spit on the 'o'rings on the needle and seat assembly before screwing them in. For the float levels I prefer to invert the bowls and lay a 1/4" drill bit on what is now the bottom, adjusting the float until it just touches the bit. Check the carburetor base for flatness. Check the secondary throttle blade and choke settings per the directions. Set the mixture screws at 1 1/2 turns out from being lightly seated.
The motor should start and run fine at this point. Correct jetting and power valve value should only be changed if there is a problem down the road. The 3310 (780 or 750 cfm depending on age) is a very versatile carburetor and should run great with stock settings on a mild motor. Good luck and let us know how it goes...

I heartily concur with coloradodave. The 3310 is the perfect carb for a fairly mild 383. In fact, it was the factory carb on those for a while at one point. Should have 72 primaries in it and a 6.5 power valve out of the box, which is fine unless you have really low vacuum in that motor of yours.
