I have a 383 pretty much stock using Valvoline VR1 20w50. What are you using in your car?

I'd go to the factory weight; 10W40. The heavier oil puts needless drag on the oil pump, and really isn't necessary in a stock engine.

10-40. Amsoil. Signature Series high zinc.

Got to have that zinc in the oil for our flat tappet cam cars. Which oil for newer cars doesn't have. I use Kendal oil with zinc.

I use brad Penn 20w50 for now but will be switching to the 10w40 with the next oil change. Local place sells it for $6.50 a qt.

I run the bulk 5w-30 semi-synthetic we have at the shop. been real good in my small block.

I found that Chrysler dealers have the best price on the Brad Penn oil. It was priced at $5.50 a quart. It's still pricey but don't have much other choice. The zinc additive isn't cheaper either.

I use the VR1 20w50 also, with a zddp additive for engine break-in, but may switch to a 10w30 synthetic later, but I'm running a roller cam, so it is not as critical to have the zddp.

Quaker state defy 5w-30. $15 for 5qt at walmart and 1200ppm zddp.

ummm....dead dino's? hee hee.

Yeah, I hear that!

Kinda funny...all using those multi-weight oils. New, and improved, right?

Don't know if it's worth anything. Get proven one way, or the other, and already educated on the zddp thing. I have always used Valvoline, and with a 440 build w/ a new flat tappet cam I'll have to break (or break-in). Kinda checked things out, and at Valvoline site, read a report that says on the zddp EPA limits...don't apply to straight weight oil...like 30w Racing oil.

Gonna find out (one of these days), since plan is to break the motor in with 30w, then go to 40w. Not one drop of multi stuff. Of course, zddp paste on the cam.

I use the same in a built 440. Keith Black internals and 12:1 compression. PO told me that is what he used so I am sticking with it.
