Hey guys. Wondering what kind of bulbs everybody is running. I was wondering if you could run those new xenon bulbs without having to modify anything. Not sure if there is a company out there that makes them for old cars or not
 
Not sure about headlights but check MrMoparts for bulbs. They carry a wide array of bulbs for vintage cars.
 
The headlights on my new scooter are round and real glass, but with replaceable bulbs.

I haven't tried to put one in one of may cars, though.

I have read, however, that some newer round "bulbs" are slightly smaller in diameter, making them unusable because the trim ring won't clamp them in.
 
I don't think there are many options at all in the sealed beam headlight market place for vintage cars, I don't drive much at night, so I stuck with the not so great Sylvania sealed beams, just to keep the stock appearance. I would also like to know what if anyone finds any better options.
 
At slantsixdans suggestion, I went with GE Nighthawks. WELL worth the money compared to the Sylvania that came with my car. We dont have many choices, these I believe are the best by far. Cheap too, from Zoro.
 
Update. Just called Zoro for a failed bulb on my Dart, they are sending a replacement H6024. Dont have to return the failed bulb since it is in the 1 year period covered by their warranty. A pleasant surprise. I appreciate good customer service instead of the runaround so common today. Will buy from them again!
 
I did that LED upgrade almost a year ago. Much brighter than halogens. I am very happy. The only thing is the mounting tabs on the new bulbs are a little funky. Technically not DOT approved.
 
I would suggest doing the relay modification. It's cheap, easy, and makes even halogen lights look 2-3 times brighter.

My stockers do look a bit yellow bouncing off the garage wall when I get home. What is this 'relay modification' you speak of?
 
I installed a HID kit by Liteon. The base bulb holders ( glass bulb housings) are actually Hella and are made for a four headlight system. Kit came with everything in two different boxes for high/low positions. The output is amazing but aiming has to be done manually as the machine used at most shops does not fit the flat face of the glass. Power comes directly from the battery and is fused on both circuits. The high/low function is controlled by two separate relays and they are triggered by the feeds from the high/low foot switch so there is no high power draw to iluminate the lamps. The foot switch only controls the coils in the relays. Onced installed the lights look stock but when activated they have tremendous output with very low amperage draw. These I bought at a local speed shop.
