So it begins!! I put the R/T in the backyard last night so I can start disassembly and repairs. I'm not going for a total restoration, but just want to repair some of the rust issues that I have found. Replace some of the rubber seals around the doors and trunk. And get ready for paint and new carpet. I hope the rest of the floor is in better shape.
I can't decide if I will put the wing back on. Not sure if I want to put holes in the lid it took me so long to find. As you can see its mounted on a 66 trunk.

You've got a great car to work on. Always loved the coronet R/T. Usually one thing leads to another and you end up doing way more than you expected to do. Are you doing all the work yourself or farming some things out? I wish you luck on the project.

I will be doing everything myself. I've seen what other people have paid to have done before, and I know that I see stuff that I wouldn't pay for. Like I said in the beginning, not a complete restoration just doing the things I am comfortable with and can find good information on. I'm starting with the floors because I have a Belvedere for parts.

Like GetX'd said it's always worse than you think. I'm in the process of repairing the floorboards also thinking of getting a roll bar kit for the R/T and need a picture of where the the usual mounting plate mounts so I can weld in some reinforcement while I'm there. Thanks FBBO

Headliner pictures

Here are some pictures of the headliner I did last month. I forgot to post them. Still working on an idea for the joint at the sail panels.

patch panel

Well the section I was going to use from the Belvedere is not much better so I'm going to cut a panel from an old trunk I've been saving. I'll have to bend and shape it to fit. Fun fun fun. More to come!

Gonna be a great car when you get it repaired and painted. Ditch the wing, just doesn't quite fit the body styling imo.

Floor patch

I finished welding up the floor pan tonight. Now I need to grind down the bigger welds. It took me a while to figure out the wire speed to get a good weld, but it's a good solid patch. I beat on it with a 4 lb sledge hammer and it sounds good and solid. Not to bad for a Harbor Freight special. More to come, hopefully the driver side is better.

How did you do that weld without removing the glass?
I had to pre bend the angles to match the sail panel angles and molding chanel all together. It took a couple of trys to get the chanel part under the rubber. And still was only able to tac it at the bottom corner. I'll have to wait until I remove the windshield to weld it to the seal Chanel

The answer would be very carefully and slowly , as not to heat the glass. They do explode ,trust me amateur mistake once wasn't even welding to the part the glass was mounted to it was just very close and boom! I'll never do that agen .
Buy the way sweet car .deff loose the wing doesn't do anything for me on that style car .
A car like that doesn't need a wing it's drop dead gorgeous without. Good luck on your welding it looks good so far from here .
