Ok, so I've had the Coronet for a little over a week now, and I'm starting to narrow down some of the things that need to be done. I'm redoing the exhaust because it's cobbled together and hangs low, and I'm having the front windshield replaced because the corners are frosted and the rear window resealed because it was done poorly. Also the trim clips on the rear wind were riveted in and that is causing water to get into the truck.

Now onto the suspension, I've noticed a rattle coming from under the car (thought at first it could be the beauty rings, but removed them and it was still there) and I believe it's coming from the front end (going to look at the rear as well just to be sure). I also hear creaking after driving it for prolong periods of time. I'm wondering if you guys might be able to help me narrow these issues down. I'm thinking the rattle might be a shock that's no good any more, and I thing the creak is from a torsion bar. Am I on the right track or is it something else?

The creaking noise is likely coming from upper or lower control arm bushings.

Yeah I can see that, I believe the uppers were replaced, I'll have to look at the lowers. To be honest the creak isn't my biggest concern, I really want to know what the rattle is. I'm going to have to wait till the truck is done, so I can get the car up in the air…

a rattle could be anything, if its a car you are restoring, I would just do the entire front end at once, moog parts will cost you around $250 , blast and repaint everything then install the new front end soft parts and tierods.. I have all the part numbers somewhere if you need them. The last one I did was under $350 with monroe shocks and lower control arm plates... Good luck...

The rattle is built in...I jest , of course but , after changing just about everything in the rear end ( SS shocks/springs , snubber , hangers ) it still has the ever-present rattle...I just live with it...good luck with your project...

Yeah in the rear I find a lot of the time it's the rebound clips that rattle on the leafs, but this rattle is definitely in the front. I think it's the shocks rattling, but it's hard to say. The front brakes are off a Cordoba and I'm wondering if it's a result of the swap, maybe something that wasn't needed and left loose…

Subframe connectors quieted mine down. USCartool.

Got it. Now we chase perfection. I had a shock rattle, back though. Put Bilsteins in properly and quiet now.

Well, this morning I started working on the car to find the annoying rattle. I got as far as taking the wheel off, when I noticed the centre cap was loose and making a very familiar noise. Turns out the cap was loose and making the noise. I love it when it's a simple fix. Just never thought that little thing would make that much noise…
