Rack & Pinion

I put one on my project but have a custome made Tubular K frame so it probly won't help you for info ?
I did make adapters to use stock type tierod ends so as to keep BumpSteer down. So far I am happy wit how its turning out but I am a LONG way from the street !!
I would think with this kit the bumpsteer should not be a big issue as there mounting it in pritty much stock location.

Any pics you could share?

In my not so stock roadrunner post. You can see my set up there.
Have,t posted to it for some time but I am back at her again !

i run rack and pinion but also have a custom tubular k member. my tie rods run parallel with the rack due to the custom wheel hubs and spacer, with my limited wheel travel I have 0 bumpsteer.

i did the unisteer & corrected the bumpsteer problems & the turning radius issues, car drives great, BUT I WOULD NOT EVER BUY ONE AGAIN. :)

Thanks Wedge, I remember your build thread I'll do a search and have a look... Time for some Updates!!

Got it... so to have an effective Rack & Pinion a custom tubular K Frame is pretty much a necessity. Did you buy your rack or have it fabbed?

So you wouldn't buy their product again or wouldn't convert to Rack & Pinion again?

Here's what has pushed me to consider it as an option. I just moved and have a new neighbor that happens to own a reputable custom rod & chassis shop. He took a good look over my car and said he'd really like to give me the best bang for the buck and thinks that would be triangulated 4 link and rack & pinion. (I know you're leaning 3 link Benno it's food for thought as my car isn't a 1/4 mile car either)

Here's a pic of his shop truck and some of his work underneath it, **Warning Chevy content** lol

Hey Goon
I have it on my GTX because it came with the Alterktion. This does not answer any "retro fit" type questions for a conversion with existing K frame but I can say it is soooooooo nice to drive with. Handles great , very responsive, not as much steering wheel movement required in turns.
If you are going to go to a 4 link and end up with coil overs in the rear you might as well do the front while you are at it. The alterktion would be an easy swap.

Hey goon , i would not want to buy from them again. the car drives very good, but it was NO easy bolt on & the rack had to be rebuilt after it only had 100 miles on it.

I have manual rack & pinion in my 71 Cuda from Flaming River. I upgraded the k frame to tubular IFS and 4-link Coil-Over Rear suspension with track bar from Control Freak www.freakride.com . They are one of the best companies I've ever dealt with. I really like the responsiveness of the rack & pinion with no bumpsteer but if I did it again I'd go with a power rack & pinion. The 4 link looks really cool but you sacrifice a bit on the comfort ride of leafs and it a bit noisy (hyme joints), which is hard to ignore. I'm doubling up on the hushmat because of that.

Lucky you for having a motorhead neighbor!

A lot of good info here guys thanks and please post pics if you got em!

Given what I've already learned I'm definitely going to backburner this till some more extensive work comes up and when the car likely gets blown apart and re-done in a few years time.

Slepr1 I was lucky enough to meet ANOTHER motorhead neighbor today... this new place is filled with them! Guy stopped by with his ratrod pickup and turns out he's got a nice collection including a 7 second 57' Chevy Promod he has invited me over to see!! LOVING THIS!!

I converted several years ago from stock to RMS AlterKtion front end on my 70' super bee. I love the handling. I loath the sloppy stock steering of most older Mopars so this was the answer to my problems. It's a well engineered easy to install unit that works, what's not to like? Pic's included for your viewing pleasure.

Thanks Fellas! A lot to consider here... I don't like my bird to be tied up in the shop during driving season so I'm putting in overtime now trying to plan/budget this winters upgrades! :)

I like the R&P idea, but have always wondered why the unisteer won't work for the 66-67 B bodies. I would like to get rid of the bulky/heavy steering box, but cannot afford the fancy new cross members.

Don't have one but your not the first person that has said that turning is a bitch. "Give me 40 acres to turn this rig around"
