Little direction needed if possible. I did a search for headers and hp rating and didn't get much..

Stroking a 400 to 512 from 440 Source. Using their 512 kit and CNC stealth heads (look great too) 571 hydraulic cam. 69 Charger. B body. According to spec, could possibly be close to 600 hp when done. I'm pretty sure it will be closer to 600 than 450. I'm looking at tti headers for it. I really want to use the shorty headers they offer. Smaller should fit easier and won't hang down. But they are rated for a lot less hp than what I expect to have.

Ok here it is..How bad will it be if I use these shorty headers rated for much less hp? Bad for headers, motor, how much hp loss? anything else??

I can give a lot more spec on build if needed and again I expect to be close to 600 hp. I may not end up there. Talking to 440 Source, with items purchased, they feel 600 will be ballpark.

Thanks!!

I see those are only recommended for up to 475 hp. I don't think I would want to throttle back a 600 hp motor with those. I have a set of full length tti's on a 400 in my RR and don't think they hang to low. Have you checked out the Tri-y's from Schuemacher? If you have an auto car, they should fit with no mods.

Call TTI and ask them. What I think they will tell you is that the shorties will not cut your engine back to 475 HP, but at higher rpms you will lose some 25-30 HP. So 600 HP may become 570-575 HP. In our dyno tests with cheap long tube headers (not shorties) vs TTI headers we had the same average horsepower until about 6,000 rpm and then the TTI headers delivered 10 HP more above 6,200 rpm.

I'm with hunt2elk, go ahead and get the regular long tube headers.

the shorties will just be a restriction and reduce upper rpm power. i run the 2"tti's with a full 3" exhaust, probably more than i need. i think the 1 7/8" would make a nice compromise.

Thanks for info! That's what I was looking for. I know I can call tti etc but I wanted to hear from the folks that use them not sell them. I'll take a look at the Tri-ys. Again thanks for the info! Once I start the build here in a week or two, I'll start a thread with pics and how it's all going.

If you're putting together a nice motor, get the correct headers for it. I have 2 1/4 TTIs and they don't hang too low.

Absolutely!!! That's why I asked for help! I knew I'd get great info. I don't want to screw it up on the headers!

I have a set of the Schumacher Tri-Y headers on a tunnel ram 440. They replaced a set of full length headers with 18 inch collectors. The new headers connect to flow master 3 chamber mufflers with 2 1/2 inch pipes.
I can't give any ET changes (can't run without a roll bar-sigh). However, seat of the pants feel is definitely different. The engine does not feel as 'peppy' as before (mid-range and up). It still has power, just doesn't feel like as much. I am building a supercharged engine to replace the tunnel ram motor and I am going with the TTI full length headers just to keep any restrictions to a minimum. I am keeping the Tri-Y headers for use in another car. They are great street headers but if your goal is serious HP, I would recommend the full length pipes. Consider the cost difference between the two and your realistic goals. You really can't go wrong with either set.
