are all big block 4 speed bell housings the same ? six pack, hemi, 383 ??

Some years are different, I know 70 was a bitch to find, now I have 3 though...

69 would be 1 for the hemi (I have one the numbers end in 259, and its marked 68/69 hemi), and one for the 383 and 440 would be also an 11" but I have one marked (numbers end in 626) and I wrote 69 on it, I know its different for 70 not sure about 68, I know it came out of a 69 b body and was original, that one will fit 383-440 not for hemi. I am not posite about any of this, lol. My brain is still way too full of chevy info, lol...

69 was different from 70, the bell was alleged to be lower profile, and the 70 used the "infamous" (variously called) scalloped , 10 7/8 / 10.9 / 11" clutch. This was essentially a pressure plate with a 10.5" bolt pattern, which was "scalloped" for disk clearance. I had trouble with them, trouble getting them to release clean.

The 69 / earlier used a "real" 11" clutch, and some used 10 1/2, earlier

I don't know if you can get the larger, older bell into a 70, or not.

Here's a post: The top two show the difference between 11" and the 70 scalloped 10 1/2 bolt pattern

If it's any help, a 143 tooth 11" set and Lakewood SS fits in a '69 A-body. I'm thinking a B-body would offer little bit more freedom.

'70's used a 130 tooth flywheel. '68 and '69 used a 143 tooth flywheel.

I guess I'm wondering which one goes on an A12 4 speed

im interested in 69

The '69 A12 440 six pack would have the larger (11" clutch sized) bellhousing (Someone else says number ends in 626). Lewtot mentioned that Hemi's have a different bellhousing (I didn't know that), the 68/69 big blocks (six pack, 2 bbl, 4 bbl, 383 or 440) used a cast iron (I guess 626) bellhousing for the 11" clutch. In '70 Chrysler went to a 10.5" flywheel & a different aluminum bellhousing. The Lakewood I'm running will fit either flywheel size.
