Cool Mopar for under $5K ?

Saw that one too. Funny, back when they came out I hated the way they looked because I was comparing them to the 68 - 70's. Now I think they look cool.

right?? well, I wasnt even a glimmer in the Old Man's eye when they came out, but the 70 Coronets have grown on me too...

this one is one of my favorites...

Agree that there is no market for these at $20K but there is a market nonetheless. They can be kept original as MarPar has done or be customized without the high $$$ entry point of a muscle car. Owning one of each (a Road Runner and a custom Doba) and attending cruise night and shows on a regular basis the cars appeal to differing groups. The Road Runner appeals to the nostalgia crowd of mostly guys, the Doba turns off the purists but seems to appeal to younger car enthusiast of both genders. As one guy said to me "I don't care what it is - I just like it."

Custom cars are not what this forum is about but it seems to be a growing trend with the younger generation and perhaps where the hobby is trending. I think the expression of individualism may be the driving force. An acquaintance of mine built this one from a $600 donor car. Moh is a second generation Arab from Lebanon. His friends got together and bought the vanity plate in the window which translates to White Camel. Personally I would rather see this kind of work done to baffed out Imperials or New Yorkers if they are to far gone to be preserved as originals.

Like the saying goes, there is an *** for every seat, the problem is some seats are a natural fit for a very tiny few asses, and when that happens you need to be more accommodating if you want your car to sell. Take this car for example: http://sarasota.craigslist.org/cto/5218081734.html It's a beautiful like-new 77 New Yorker Brougham. Somewhere, there's someone who's sitting there thinking "I would love to have a 77 New Yorker Brougham", but does that person like the color, want to pay for shipping, have the space to keep a land yacht, have a spouse that will let them have "that old car" in the driveway? If that were a 70 Roadrunner, it would be gone in a day at that price because there are lots of butts wanting to fill that seat, but a 77 New Yorker? Not very many, which means if you want your car to sell, you need a flipper or an impulse buyer, and those folks make decisions based on a price that's too good to pass up. The car may be worth every dime of $5,700, but it'll more likely sell at $2,000.

My junk. Both under $5000 (USD for sure!). Heck I think together I am still under $5000 with mechanical repairs and upgrades! They are both daily drivers and both fun because of that.

I don't disagree with anything you are saying. The point I'm trying to make is there a market for these cars and it is growing with the younger crowd. If that New Yorker was here it would be worth twice what the guy is asking. The buyer (here) would most likely dress it up and slam it. At $11K, it's a lot less initial cost than a new 300, BMW or Mercedes (which are the vehicles of choice for this market) and the end result could be amazing or dreadful - I'm not really sure. For sure I'd rather see the White Camel be a New Yorker than a Cadillac.
