The instructions that came with it is more blah that puff wheat cereal we all used to eat growing up

One tip, don't cut anything OFF until you are sure that you have it all correct. It is easy to put a stitch or patch to repair a slice, but once it is cut off seldom will it ever go back and stay in place. Usually start near the pedals as that plastic piece has to be set in the proper spot. Then go from there, it's not as difficult as you may think.

Also, if you can be fore installing, let it sit out in the hot sun to help relax the creases in it from shipping. A steamer if you have one available will help when installing, some folks say using a heat gun works, but be careful with that so you don't melt anything.

I was thinking of pulling out the shifter assembly first to start and then try get the molding in right places, should I use some sort of sound dampener or passion underneath as well?

First thing is to pull out all the seats and the console if it has one. Remove the kick panels, seat belts, and the sill plates. You might also need to loosen up the lower rear quarter panel covers.

I always install the rear section first as the front section overlaps it.

As ODZKing wrote, do not cut off anything!

When you start to do the front, make sure it is centered, which you can tell by looking at the sill plate areas. Also slide the carpet as far forwards as you can. It won't go all the way up the firewall, just partway. Make sure there is some overlap over the rear carpet.

If you have a floor shifter, cut slits over the down rod, linkage, and shifter, and start working the carpet over them and then under them. Do not cut away any sections of carpet unless you have to. Nothing worse than putting the console back on and seeing too big a hole under it. :(

Put your rear seats and console back in. Now is usually a good time to locate the holes for the seat belts, cut a 1/2" hole over each, and reinstall the belts. Then put the kick panels and sill plates back on. You also need to locate the dimmer switch, cut a hole for it, put the rubber grommet on, and slide the carpet over the switch.

Once all the is in place, and the carpet is pretty much in position, get a screwdriver or icepick and slide it up from below the car using the holes for the seat studs. Look for where the carpet pushes up, or the pick comes through, and cut about a 1/2" hole there. Once you have the four holes for a side made, reinstall your front seat(s).

I've found cutting a "X" for a bolt to go through is a lot safer than cutting a hole.

Every once in a while your hole ends up being an inch or more off, for whatever reason.

An X will lay back down and not be noticed, A hole will always be a hole.

Great guys! Yes I have absolutely everything out of the vehicle its bare to the metal, my worry really is setting the shifter cut, don't want it to close to the front or don't want it to far back,

do you sew it together the front and back after its all set or just leave it?

Nope they just Lay in there ,ones finished nice on the end (front) put it on top. Also check and poke out holes your seats and seat bolts, before you start cutting the extra off let the heat (Sun) get the molded carpet back to a easley moveable form. Then just install
Good luck

Just leave it. The "border" is under the front seat, so you can't really see it.

Since its two piece, make sure the front overlays the back piece, the front should be stitched on the back edge but the back carpet wont have any stitching.
