Hemi timing

I'll have to check my Dyno sheet this afternoon.
I don't have it with me right now.

35 degrees on both my race hemi's
when I was at lower compression it liked 32 degrees
No more than 35 on a hemi

I run 35 @ 2500 on my Chally. tried 36 once.... Not good.....

Thanks guys. I'm trying to get an idea where to roughly set my timing. Had it at 34 but that was to much for my set up. Backed it of to 28 and will creep up on it.

Compression? and what cam are you running? And what heads?

That's something you gotta play with. Mine is happy totaled out at 32. Going more didn't do anything for it

When we were a 498 we had the motor on the dyno. It made peak power at 33deg. but it was and has always been faster at 35deg.

make a pass at 32 degrees, log it and keep going up till you see your ET go down. My ET always goes up till I hit 35 degrees but my mph usually drops.
Also your 60 foot should increase.
Stop at 35 degrees

I talked with Dave Duddek on drag week. He said he usually runs around 30 and never needs to go above 32. This is all obviously depending upon the accuracy of the timing marks and your eye. I was running 28 degrees on DW and went 129.4 mph at 4190lbs. I added 3 degrees and the mph fell off to 128. Next time out, I'll make a launch curve with timing down low to get a good 60' time and get the car moving then pull timing with the gear retards. Currently, the only retard I'm using is the one behind the wheel.

30 degrees in my pump-gas 496. 851 HP/698 lb ft

I dont think setting your timing to mph is effective.
More like setting timing for ET
Jetting is for mph.

I'm currently playing with a prestolite dual point for a 68 hemi charger I just picked up. I set the timing at 35 deg with race fuel. At 35 deg the initial is at 20-21 deg and may be a bit much. I installed a FBO timing limiter disc and am playing with springs. Pretty tuff finding springs for those prestolites. My next test is a pertonix ignighter III.

My 572 made the best @28 896HP with a Ray Barton crossram

We've had about 5 pertronix units on the dyno over the years and not one of them made a successful pull.
