Yes, they are still out there waiting to be discovered!

That's an awesome car. They really are still out there. On Wednesday I found and bought a numbers matching 68 charger from a 71 year old woman who drove it daily in the early 80's. He husband just passed away and they are clearing out the herd that he collected. Her car was in the best shape because it was up by the house for 30 years and I bought that one. I know in the field they have a few R/T 68 chargers and some roadrunners but in a field in Wisconsin they are really rusty. So one will save those R/Ts

the nice guy in me wants to say I'm happy for ya...... but i'm having a REAL HARD time....

that is just awesome ...just unbelievable. My only hope is that you paid a LOT of money for it. :)

Thanks I think! Lets just say it was more than I have ever paid for a project car.

Love the Tommy Boy reference!

Enjoy it, looks pretty solid should be fun. Now you have to find a 426 hemi to put in there!

We actually have a 472 hemi that was going to go in my '71 Road Runner until now.

nice find!
side qwestion, how well did uhaul handle the tire problem? or did you go a different route?

It was a phone call and 3 hour wait. Phone people were good. The delay put us in the middle of rush hour traffic. Man I am glad that I live in the middle of nowhere!

Um is that license plate dealer city near the area you got that? because if it is I'm going to be sick that's like 15 min from me. Nice score!

The car was in Antioch. Had been in the area since new.

You need to send meep meep and budnicks a message I'm from that area and I remember the name skip being mentioned by my uncle that steet raced in that area as that's where I'm from in the 80s

Wow, an awesome find. Hope to see the pics as you resurrect this fabulous car. That GTX was the baddest thing on the roads while I was in High School...soooo jealous!

Thank you, supposedly the original owner's name was Skip, lived in the Pittsburgh California area and was a local drag racer. The family thought that he had passed away and all his stuff had been sold quite a few years ago. Here's a picture that I scanned from a photo found in the storage unit of it towing a U-haul trailer sometime in the early '80's.

Thanks, I recently gave up my 2006 Top Banana Daytona and my '99 1500 Sport 4X4 to get the new pickup.

I don't know if you noticed in the picture but they are pulling the trailer through the center of a Giant Redwood, pretty cool picture!

Wow. And why don't I own that car!?! Did not know Skip, or at least by name, nor do I recognize the car. But it's quite possible this car saw duty on 10th st in Pittsburg (AKA the n___r nationals) probably right before I showed up on that scene in my white 68 RR. Budnicks stands a good chance of knowing this car. Damn - again - why don't I own this car!?!?

Meep-Meep,

Story goes that the hemi was pulled and it got the 440 around '78. Looks like it may of had some body damage to the right front that was repaired a long time ago- before the redwoods picture was taken. It is also coded for a blue body stripe, but in the picture it has a white stripe- possibly changed after the body work was done? It come with the drive train and some body parts from a dark purplish blue '69 Roadrunner that was supposedly street raced in the area by a guy named Joey- built 383, vertical gate 4 speed, Dana 60. I will pm Budnicks. Thanks

your just not living right

Great find and even better start to a full story in the making!!

Awesome. Don't rotisserie the car, drop the hemi in it and drive it as is.

You know I've actually toyed with that idea.

Spent the last few days cleaning the car out and going through the boxes of stuff that came with it.

You can see a decal on the windshield in the pictures pulling the U-Haul. It's still on the car.

I also found these in the glovebox and under the seats:

The tags are from the '68 Road Runner that we got the drive train and front sheet metal from.

I still can't believe that I actually own a J code car. The fender tag (I scrubbed off the Ford blue rattle can paint) matches the trunk lip but there are no numbers stamped on the core support anywhere other that the part number, but then the car was built in Friday, December 15, 1967.

The remains of a build sheet that I picked out of the giant rat nest under the back seat.

Hemi only parts:

Torque boxes and rear frame gusset plates

Resonators with tips still on the car

Thanks for all the positive comments, I will keep posting as we go.

Amazing ! Your one lucky fella......good luck with the investigation ,hope you can somehow find the hemi!

I'd get some old pics of how it was raced, and restore it to that look.
