Well hello everyone that helped me out with my fuel problem. It seems as if I have found the problem with help.
I pulled the fuel pump push rod out and it was only 3.00. Not the 3.222. I have one on order and will change it out. One end of the old one looks like it was grounded off. Well thank you all for the help.

Hopefully you ordered a hardened pushrod. Also lube the pushrod and use a zddp additive or a oil with a zinc package. Good luck.

mine came in, but it's a real tight fit and a little long.

When my push rod wore down I had the fuel pump out and ditributor out. There was a lip on the top side so it wouldn't slide out, I took a screwdriver and hammer and smacked it a few times on top and it slide right out where the fuelpump mounts

A good time to change the oil and filter....just think where all that missing metal went....

Below the fuel pump mounting plate there is a pipe plug. Remove it and slide the new rod up the hole. Note a little grease will hold the rod in place while installing the fuel pump.

Can anyone please answer this question? What tool and size of tool is needed to remove the pipe plug?

I'd be a little concerned with the tight fit. I bought one last week that was also very tight & elected not to use it, it was almost stuck in the hole. Appears at least some of the aftermarket ones are 0.436"OD, I measured 2 factory originals & they were 0.434". Ended up buying a NOS one. There are some key things that must be done when making these, of course dimensions but also hardness, you want the tips hardened but the shaft should also be of the correct hardness so that it does not eat into the bore of the block.

Chuck it in the drill press and polish it down to fit
some bores will be big and they will like the .002 bigger
