Navy Chief's 1966 Plymouth Satellite

Ok, I took the car out last night for a drive. Passenger side fender mounted turn signal quit working, so I'm guessing it's the bulb. After fighting with the connectors I was able to remove both turn signals and pulled the bulbs out. Those dang bulbs are so frickin small I can't tell if they're burnt out or not, and can barely see the number on them!!! Of course, no one stocks those damn things!!!! I also discovered I think it's time to replace the headlight switch as the lights flickered a couple times and when I twist the knob I have to be careful how I twist it so the dash lights light up. I may replace the dimmer switch too for good measure, since they're cheap. I'm also going to freshen up my arm rests and install my new arm rest bases I've had for years as well. Still haven't figured out the fuel issue I mentioned above, but it didn't act up last night, so that was good. I'm sure it'll be a matter of time though if I don't figure it out.

I have the same problem with my 300 and my van. I very rarely drive at night so it's not a problem. I think it just could be dirty dusty crap in the switch that messes with a good contact. Good Luck

Ah yes!!! That's what I'm looking for cr8crshr!!! Thanks, not easy to locate. I found another source, but wanted over $5 per bulb!!! Plus shipping!!!!

Thanks 69a100. I just bought a new switch yesterday, they're only $15, plus with my 10% military discount it wasn't worth passing up. I'll get it changed out this week and have those bulbs on order and will get turn signals back together once they arrive.

Well I received my 10 pack of bulbs yesterday for my fender mounted turn signals. After polishing the lenses, cleaned up the chrome housing and put new bulbs in my passenger side still isn't working. I pulled the harness that connects to the grill mounted turn signal to clean all the connections as no power is getting to the fender mounted signal, but grill signal works fine. Hope to have it working tonight. Also need to remove the headlight switch to put new one in, not looking forward to that....

Ok, I replaced my headlight switch last night, and after testing it out I've discovered (actually realized) that I have some dash light bulbs out. So I went to Oreillys and picked up some LED bulbs to try for the heck of it (bulb not specific for these cars), but tried a pair and man!! They put out some nice light!!! Not the "yellowish" light we're use to, but a nice white shine. You can see in the picture the left side has 2 of these LED bulbs, but the rest are regular 158 bulbs and you can't even tell they're on in the picture!! Also, I've tried to search the internet for the LEDs I bought to find better pricing, but can't seem to find the 2 packs in this exact bulb as they are cheaper and I don't want the next level brighter, as these are plenty bright! Anyone know of a source? They are 168SL Sylvania bulbs, not sure what they were intended for, but hard to locate besides just walking into the parts store.....

Hi Jim, Army here, 30 years. Retired. Thanks for your service Chief. That's a great looking car, love the stance and color. Are those Centerlines? I'm watching this thread with interest because the Audi dash going into my 67 Coronet has dim red lighting and I will be changing all of it to bright blue. Lookin good!

You mentioned you wanted to source out some cheaper bulbs. I changed all my bulbs in my '66 Belvedere dash and other places with the LEDs too. As you said, Much brighter!! I simply went onto Ebay and typed in the bulb # and led, like 194 led bulb and thousands of listings came up. I bought multiple packs in different colors to try them out and figure out the color I liked the best. I believe I bought packs of like 20 for $2-3.00 with couple more bucks for shipping.
Good luck with your project, beautiful car, and thank you for your service and dedication!

Ghostrider, thanks for your service as well! My wife's dad and stepdad are both retired Army Special Forces (between the 2 they've been in every imaginable branch in the Army, Green Beret, Ranger, Delta Force, etc....) Thanks for the compliments. The wheels are actually American Racing Outlaws, but often mistaken for Centerlines. I'm hoping by this weekend to post some more pictures of my instrument lights once I've changed some more out. I'll let you know. "Chief"

Thanks for the appreciation as well as compliments goose69. I searched everywhere on the internet, but didn't think to actually go to ebay and search for these bulbs. At almost $10 per bulb it can get expensive. I'll check out ebay and see what I can find. I just decided to try the "cool white" colored bulbs rather than the colored and actually like them a lot so I'll stick with the white color. They actually make the gauges appear much newer/updated just by putting LED bulbs in them, but still retaining the originality. Thanks for the info.

Cool car and story to go with it! I had a 66 Belvedere II when I got drafted. I managed to slip off into the AF and had hopes of being able to be stationed state side and keep my car. Wrong thinking as I was shipped to Germany right out of tech school and had no place to store it and couldn't afford to take it over there. Oh well. So much for my first car......but I have two now :)

I have been quietly watching and had to jump in and say first Thank you sir for your service. I was a Air force brat as my dad was in for 21 years but I did not serve. You have a great car and keep up the good work.

No problem, hope you find a better deal there which I'm sure you will. I believe I went with the cool white with mine too, it seemed to just enhance the factory colors while making them brighter.
I have to tell you something funny and ironic. When you posted pics of your car I recognized one of them. You must have posted it somewhere a few years back? I have that pic saved on one of my files as an example of what I was shooting for when planning my car build. Funny how small the world is. Anyways, have fun with the car & we will keep watching.

Thanks Cranky, yardog1 and 67440chrg for the kind words and compliments. Cranky, thanks for your service as well. I just keep plugging away to continue making my Satellite nicer as I go. It's super straight and solid, but look forward to getting it painted hopefully in near future. I still can't seem to get the right side fender mounted turn signal to work, although I've tried 5 different bulbs (new) and also have tested for voltage at the bulb, which I have, but still no go. Also need to figure out why my tach keeps losing a signal after driving around a bit. I think a bad ground or loose wire. Once I get those few things figured out I'm going to start getting the arm rests redyed and install them with my new arm rest bases. I'm also going to commit to having the instrument cluster bezel and glove box door redone so interior will be really nice then. I'll keep y'all posted as I go as well as prod for answers when I get stumped!!

I haven't found the bulbs at lower price yet goose69, but still looking for sources. Not a huge deal if I can't find them, but would be nice to have a good cheaper source. As far as where you found my pictures from years back, most likely 440magnum.net or cardomain. Cardomain is most recent, as well as my '09 Challenger SRT 6 speed I had and my '93 2wd Ramcharger I had as well. Is pretty funny......

Hey, I just went onto ebay & typed in "168 led" as lots of listing came up. Several were 10 or 20 bulbs in a pack for $6-8. I remember 198s were a compatible switch out too.
Anyways, good luck to ya.

Thanks goose!! I'll check again tonight. I don't need many, but good to have a few extras on hand, so I'll order some!!

Well I'm still not having any luck getting my passenger side fender mounted turn signal to work. I know it's most likely something simple, but I'm missing something. I'm going to run a dummy wire to see if possibly a ground issue. Possibly this winter I may buy new rear tires and wheels to fill some mini tubs I've been contemplating. Also debating whether to dig out my Dana 60 to narrow it to replace my fairly new, and expensive 8 3/4 that's currently under it.
