I have a new freshly rebuilt 383 in my 68 Charger which ran great on the Dyno. I installed the engine and drove it for the 1st time yesterday and it ran hot. While in park/ idle the car runs fine without overheating so I stumped because of it. I have a brand new 180 T Stat, fan/fan clutch, a 16psi radiator cap etc.... I took the goose neck and t stat out to see if coolant was running through the engine which is was. I decided not to put the t stat back in and when I done that and let the car run for 5-10min it didn't run hot without it in....is this strange?..... Forgot to mention that the t stat was open/closing properly and I have a new water pump as wel

Mine spiked the first drive. Use a laser temperature gun to be sure. You need to know the numbers and put a 180 Stant Superstat in.

I don't have a laser temp gun but do have a 180 therm stat in.

I don't have a laser temp gun but do have a 180 therm stat in. Not sure if this has anything to do with it but I have the entire MSD setup, comp cams and block bored 30 over.

Does your lower rad hose have a spring inside? I know from past experience that a lower hose without a spring will have a tendensy to collapse during higher engine rpm's therefore restricting the flow of the coolant. Just a thought.

I have a couple questions. Using a fan shroud? What housing and pump? Radiator re-core? What temp is running hot?

Come to find out my 85% of my radiator was clogged. Since taking it to the radiator shop I've had 0 issues with my car running hot.
