I made up an AutoCad drawing and saved it to PDF for you guys to use.
I never liked seeing guys run high amp draws through small wires and directly through toggle switches. Don't be fooled by the amp rating of the cheap switches! They will fail and possibly destroy your fine ride!
Use the correct wire guage for you application too! I like to use 8 or 10 guage stranded wire for the main supply to my firewall mounted breaker unit. Think of the amps rated on the device your powering, fuse it for slightly more than that for inrush, then select a wire to handle that. Individual conductors to the device can and should be smaller than the main supply to your primary breaker. I chose a 30A breaker then ran each relay off the output post and fused the ouput side of that for the device being protected accordingly.

Just bumping this thread.
Keep in mind, that you can follow this diag, making small changes like momentary switches instead of toggles. The device on the end of the curcuit doesn't matter.... Just fuse it for the wire size used, and use the correct wire size for the rated amp draw of the device, They go hand in hand.
 
I had this save me twice already this summer.
I just had my new fuel pump fail, and the fuse blew. I checked the pump, and sure enough,,, windings were shorted out!
This past weekend, I went for a nice long drive, and as I got close to the house, I noticed my temp guage rising rapidly! I pulled in the driveway and began my inspection and wouldn't you know it, the fuse was blown on the water pump! Now I have a bad electric water pump to replace too! I would hate to think of what damage might have been caused by not protecting the wiring with this setup!
I'm pretty sure i'll be putting the mechanical water pump back on this time though! I'll leave the relay and fuse installed for a future device. Perhaps the old method of electric water pump with the little motor running the pump via belt method would be good. I could hook up the belt to the crank pulley for every day cruising, and run the belt to the motor for the days at the strip......"HMM"

IMPORTANT CAVEAT!!!!!!!


Some "Bosch" style relays come with an internal diode across the coil. THERE DOES NOT seem to be hard and fast standardization for these, meaning, some can be reversed compared to others. If you wire one of these with the wrong coil terminal GROUNDED you can burn up your switching / trigger circuit, or at least pop the fuse in the trigger circuit.

CHECK these for a diode, and for polarity of the diode.

In the example below, DO NOT ground pin 86!!! with a 12V NEG ground system!!!
