trying to excite msd box, on 67 satellite, thought it was the blue and brown together....no luck...help, thx, bob

Detail "what else" you have hooked up?

Big Red, Big Black go to constant power and ground

Small red is 'switched ignition." Basically you either do or don't bypass the resistor, does not matter. Use your old coil + wire hook that to the "small red."

What distributor? points? Mopar? other? If you are not using points make sure the white is taped off

Coil plus and minus wires FROM the MSD are the ONLY thing the ONLY thing hooked to the coil. Do not hook the tach, or the old radio supression cap to the coil

================================

??WHY?? can you leave the resistor in or bypass it either one? Why does that work? Simple. The "small red" is a "trigger" wire just like a relay, only "solid state." So there is very little current draw in that circuit.

no points, ive got all the wiring details, but cant find the wire from the switch, to conect

in other words, which wire or wires come through the firewall that connect to on and start @ ignition switch?

I thought you bypass resistor

The point is you do not HAVE to bypass the resistor. The thing is, depending on car and year, there is more than "one or two" wires "at the resistor. You must either jumper ALL of them or else just use the original coil + wire.

There is no "one wire" out of the bulkhead. The "TWO" wires are "ignition run" and the brown bypass. However, these JUNCTION in the engine harness to feed off, depending on year...........

Of course the ballast resistor.........

Voltage regulator IGN terminal

Alternator field voltage 70 / later

Idle solenoid on some cars

Distributor retard on some cars

Smog doo dads on some cars

And electric choke if used.

So we are back to the original..........

Either bypass the resistor "or don't" and hook your ORIGINAL coil + wire to the small red.

thanks, like an idiot instead of "bypassing" the resistor I just un pluged it. just tied those wires from both sides of the resistor back together and voila! the blue and brown are now hot at the ignition on and star position. think im gold! thanks

Happens to the best of us. Yep, tie the brown and blue together and connect to the MSD trigger lead and you are done.

How bout a pic of the engine bay / car? Just curious.
