Where do the 2 black wires and red wire go on the positive battery cable? The big red wire is obviously the starter feed. Does the black one with it go to the other starter post. My wiring diagram doesnt show the other black and red wire. Thanks

PHOTO? My diagram doesn't show such a thing, and I'm not a "resto correct" guy. The wiring diagram shows main cable from battery goes directly to starter. A second wire is shown (no 10) from battery to starter relay stud

Another wire "brown" no 12 goes from the "square" terminal of the starter relay down to the starter solenoid. This would parallel the main cable, and originally, was molded into a one-piece connector at the starter.

Sorry thought i uploaded it image.jpg

The dark colored one is for the starter solenoid. So the starter end the dark wire goes to the solenoid, the opposite end connects to the "square" terminal on the start relay.

Some cars, the main cable goes from battery to starter relay stud, then a separate ring - to - ring cable jumpers from there to the big starter stud.

Other cars, the big main cable goes direct from battery to starter big stud, and a separate no 10 or so goes to the starter relay large stud.

I can't tell is the right side of the photo, is that a ring terminal or battery clamp?

Yes the far one on the right is the main battery cable. It is wrapped together with a black wire. The other 2 wires are a black and red wire wrapped together. The black wire has a fork terminal on it the red a ring fitting. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Still a bit confused. Does the black wire that is wrapped with the main 0 gauge wire from the battery go to the starter solenoid?

Where do the other black and red wire that are taped together go? The car is a manual transmission if that makes a difference. Thank you

Just a guess. Need to use a multi-meter, and see if the two black wires are connected, which would make sense. If they are the same...past the positive battery connect, the red and black leads that feed to the starter, red to the main lug. Black wire to the solenoid. The other (forked terminal) end of the black wire to the square center terminal on the starter relay. The red ring terminal should go to the main (feed) lug on the relay, that supplies power into the car.

At least from the different diagrams I've been looking at, that's how it's wired up. Where did you get that cable from? Looks like one I could use on my mess.

If I'm wrong on the power feed to the dash, feel free to straighten my act up. Still wiring mine up, and getting my head around that one thing, since you would think power would be 'on' all the time to the dash. But, that's the way it shows.

Just be SURE those two black wires are the same.

Thank you for the reply. I will check out if the black wites are the same when i get home from work tonight. The wiring diagram doesnt show theses wires.

I bought the harness from year one. Not bad quality, just wasnt impressed how the starter lug was gouged up. Grrr

Yup. At least some of the diagrams are vague on battery to starter wiring. Diagram for my 64 shows the hot lead to the relay coming off the starter main lug. Half one...half the other.
Later wired the other way.

Battery post positive, one pair to the starter the other pair to the starter relay.

Be careful of the battery post crimp. I had a bad one and caused the starter to not turn over. Long story short, the claimed crimp finally showed itself when it was sparking and melted a pinhole in the crimp itself.

Peeked at Classic Ind., for a 'like' positive cable, and a handful of complaints about it. What the hell? For a lousy battery cable?

Stay with my idea of building my own.

i wasnt impressed with the cable from year one. Gouged to sh*t.. Got the wires mounted on the starter last night, what a nightmare getting the starter to fit!!! Had to shorten on of the wires last night to make them
Work side by side. Gonna redo it and solder them
Properly. Engines about a week from installing in the car. I will keep you guys posted. Thanks for the replys

Don't know if it helps, but on my wiring for my 64, starter relay's main lug. Has the #10 red from the battery positive, that is the power feed. Another #12 red to the bulkhead, to the ammeter, and a violet wire to the horn relay.
