My 72 SSP plastic imitation wood panel with "Satellite" logo is warped. I wonder if a carpenter/furniture maker could make me another one, but using real wood. Maybe walnut? Anybody try this before me?

I heard wooden ones aren't a good choice as they will warp, shrink and crack over time.

My dash. 3/4" white oak.

Hawkeye, looks great. Has it been installed long enough to evaluate the fears of deterioration? (cracks, warps, termite-Oh no!)

It has only been on for about 4 months. I put 4 coats of stain/sealer and 10 coats of polyurethane. Time will tell.

Very nice.I'm envious of your work there.

Hope you put a sealer on the back and edges as well. When putting cedar on my house, it was highly recommended that I seal on all sides or the wood would absorb moisture from the air and warp/crack no matter how well the front side looked. That was the reason all my wood on house was curled up, cracked and pulled through the nails. Just my thoughts.

Cool idea though. Stylish look. Go for it - what do you have to lose? Boats do it all the time - they seems to survive if cared for properly.

Wood veneer would be another choice. A good cabinet supplier can get it for you.
