I want to install HID lamps in my 70 GTX. The power supply side of this swap is not so big an issue, it seems pretty straight forward what that would require. My question is, has anyone done this and if so where did you buy the kit. I see kits but none of what I have found have the "housing" that is the shape of our original headlight lamps.

I would never do a conversion into a standard H4 lens. They have cheap kits but the reflector isn't designed for the heat or the HID, and that's why many of them are not DOT (if any of the conversions are, I'm unaware of it). It's really expensive to convert to real HIDs and if you find a real kit for the classic cars it's quite expensive.

I switched to LED headlamps in my Belvedere, and they're pricey at over $500 for the pair, but the amount of light it puts out immediately in front of the car is incredible, it's a wide beam that lets you see the shoulders of the road and the next lane. Distance, not that great, but I'm not 450 yards down the road and I don't need to see a deer a quarter mile away. I like them and have had them for about a half year now.

I had HID's in converted h4 housings for two years and never had a issue except a ballast going out. The 5000k is the brightest color range.

Propwash has an excellent thread about it and Kiwigtx is something of an expert in the matter too. He has a nice thread about it also
