This is what an almost four month wait and $725 will get rechromed nowadays! Looks great, but I see why the patina look is now in vogue. Thank you EPA! I may haul a suitcase full of parts to Juarez the next time I need some chrome plating.

who did your plating? at least you got yours back done. I was scammed out of $1200.00 and didn't get anything

Geez! $725.00? Guess those Manatees are sensitive! Somewhere local or did you have to ship?

Hmmm...I live in California, where environmental regulation is the order of the day -- and yet, I've had good luck and top quality rechroming of small (trim) and big (bumpers) done at a reasonable price???

Spacecoast Plating in Melbourne, FL. I got three quotes and they were the closest to me and least money. They also do great work. They did my front and back bumpers and they were $1150. They also did my horn ring and cap. Everything I have had them do turned out beautifully.

I see guys from TV car restoration shows take 100 pieces to Mexico and get them back in time to complete an eight week restoration. I understand the process they use is banned in the US and the chrome turns out with a kind of blue tinge. I suspect this is were Bumper Boys has their chroming done.

I don't think I would trust shipping and return to one of these places. I don't think I would even consider going to Juarez with $725 cash on me.

Here is a place that I just sent my parts to. They are an old school company (grandfathered in to use older chemical process) they have been around since 1952. That there should say a lot. Over the years EPA has been tougher and tougher on waste disposal which runs some company's out of business. These guys have managed to stick around. http://www.justchromeit.com

Yeap, I hate chrome with a passion haha! I had the vent windows rechromed for my Charger and almost **** my pants.. $550.00! My bumpers got painted!!!!!

I talked to several shops and like mentioned the EPA has really put the hurts on them. I hope someone puts them in check in my lifetime.

That link takes you to Superior Chrome out of Houston. :icon_pale:

They have since completely changed the appearance of their website. I bought into the whole 'been in business since the `50s' as well. I used them several years ago for pot metal pieces...they left a LOT to be desired. Not the best $700 I ever spent. When I questioned all the 'dingle balls' along the edge of my hood letters, I was told, "You didn't pay for museum quality chrome." Really? that's the answer you give a customer? I couldn't even get the retainer nuts back on the studs! Sent them back and the dude took a grinder to them to knock off the 'pollups'...along with most of the threading! "There. That oughta fix em'."

He also re-chromed the very rare gas cap to a nice 'shiny' finish...after I specifically asked if they can duplicate the machined look of the original. Their fix on that was cross sanding it! And that's exactly what it looked like!...somebody had cross sanded the chrome. Luckily chucking it in a drill and some coarse sandpaper brought back the 'circular machined look.

Hopefully your experience will be better. :eusa_pray:

$725 tells me prices haven't gone up since I had work done several years ago.

Where in CA?
Because I'm ready to do some re-chrome work now

Oh boy... I think I'm in for a ride. I will let ya know in 8 weeks.

Ogden Chrome in Utah is great. A buddy sent chrome for a 1962 Imperial up there last year. Well over $30K worth of work, and it looked great!

I live in Los Angeles. Had my bumpers (both) and both tail pipes rechromed for a very reasonable price. They're out of Santa Fe Springs. The Bumper Connection is the name. Give Ricardo a call at 562-644-3424. They pick up and deliver too - depending where you live. I had a very good experience with them.

It appears that a considerable amount of your items are pot metal or have pot metal components. Rechroming pot metal takes a lot of additional work since after removing the original chrome finish, the metal has to be repaired before rechroming. I don't think the charge was exorbitant.
