I'm working on my first C body, a 73 Chrysler T&C station wagon, and I noticed they have a special bracket that bolts to the firewall and the ECU bolts to the bracket, so the ECU is about 1/2" out from the firewall. I've always seen ECU's bolted directly to the firewall. Any idea why they would add this bracket?

I believe there were rubber pads/bumpers to eliminate vibration under most ECU's that get mounted and airflow around them keep them cooler. JMT's

All of which makes perfect sense. I just wonder why they didn't do this to all cars.

I would leave the separator bracket. I have seen two mopar's recently with the resin in both the ecm, and the voltage regulator, melting and running down the firewall. any airflow is better than none for cooling.
